A throne chair in solid teak, hand-carved and upholstered by master Indian artisans in a pewter silver finish, made entirely to your measurements.

It is a wide, deep chair built for presence - at the head of a dining table, in a living room, in a hall, or as a single statement seat in a large bedroom.

Because the outside back is upholstered, it does not need a wall behind it. That is worth knowing before you decide where it goes, since it opens up placements a half-finished chair cannot take.

Seat height, seat width, seat depth, back height and arm height are all set by you, and the cushion is supplied with the chair.

Order singly or as a pair for either end of a table. Photographs on this page show the actual chair our artisans produced, not a computer render.

Turn most chairs around and you find out what they really are.

The outside back is where cost is usually taken out of a chair. It is the surface nobody photographs, so it gets a plain panel, a cheaper cloth, or a stapled skin with the tacks showing - on the reasonable assumption that the chair will spend its life pushed against a wall.

That assumption limits the chair permanently. A piece with an unfinished back can never float in a room, never sit at an angle across a corner, and never stand at the head of a table where people walk behind it.

So this one is close-covered on the outside back in the same fabric family as the inside, pulled and finished properly with the edges trimmed rather than tacked. The upholsterer does the outside back last, working from the top down, so the final line of trim closes at the bottom rail where it is out of sight - the only place on the chair where anything is hidden at all.

It takes an extra day and a meaningful amount of material. What it buys is a chair you can put anywhere in the room rather than only against its edges.

Frame: Solid teak throughout - back frame, seat rails, arms, turned arm columns, legs and carved rail. No veneer over engineered board.

Construction: Turned and fluted front columns running unbroken from the armrest to the floor, shaped carved crest with raised centre, carved seat rail with corner rosettes and foliate centre, padded arms.

Upholstery: Buttoned inside back, padded arms, sprung seat and a fully upholstered outside back, all close-covered and trimmed. Fabric of your choice; we can source on your behalf. A scatter cushion is included.

Finish: Pewter silver as photographed. Gold or champagne leaf, painted tones or natural teak can be specified.

Dimensions: Custom sizes made to order - seat height, width, depth, back height and arm height set by you, confirmed in writing before production.

Made: Handcrafted Indian luxury, produced to order by master Indian artisans.

Because this chair is upholstered on every face including the outside back, there is no unfinished surface for a strap or a block to bear against - so all protection is applied over breathable covers rather than directly to cloth.

The carved crest stands highest and is the most exposed part of the frame; it is guarded with a rigid cover shaped over it rather than padded against.

The turned front columns project forward of the seat and take the first contact through a doorway. Each is sleeved along its full length, with additional protection at the fluting where an edge would show a mark.

The carved seat rail runs the full width at knee height and is bridged so nothing presses into the rosettes or the foliate centre.

The scatter cushion travels wrapped separately. Everything then goes into a rigid outer carton braced internally so the chair cannot shift. Ordered as a pair, each is crated separately. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery is included anywhere in India, with no distance surcharge and nothing added at the end. Metros, tier-two cities and smaller towns are served on the same terms, and a pair ships on the same free terms as a single chair.

Production begins once your dimensions, fabric, carving depth and finish are confirmed in writing. The frame is carved and finished before upholstery starts, and the outside back is close-covered last, so the sequence is fixed - we give you an honest timeline and keep you updated as it progresses.

We dispatch through carriers experienced with carved and upholstered furniture, and send tracking details as soon as the chair leaves us.

On arrival our team brings the chair in, positions it, checks it sits firm and level on your floor and removes all packaging. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed - if anything is not right, tell us and we will resolve it.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty - the back frame, the seat rails, the arms, the turned columns and every leg joint.

The front columns are the reason this chair feels solid under the hand. Each is a single piece of solid teak running from the armrest down to the floor, so the load of someone pushing up to stand travels straight down through unbroken fibre instead of across a joint between an arm post and a separate leg.

On a wide chair the seat rails also matter more than on a narrow one, because they span further before reaching a leg. Ours are cut deep from solid stock and jointed into the columns rather than bracketed to them.

The teak carries a lifetime warranty against termite damage for as long as you own the chair, from the oils in the timber rather than the finish over them.

If anything covered needs attention, send us your order details and photographs and our artisans will handle the repair or replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

Yes - the outside back is fully upholstered and trimmed in the same way as the inside, so it can sit in the middle of a room, angled across a corner, or at the head of a table with people walking behind it.

Yes. Each front column runs unbroken from the armrest down to the floor, so the load of pushing up to stand travels through continuous timber rather than across a joint. It is why the arms feel solid rather than springy.

Yes - for the back, the arms, the seat, the outside back and the cushion, and they can differ from each other if you like. Send us a material, a colour or a photograph of your room, or ask us to source fabric for you.

To your measurements. Seat height, seat width, seat depth, back height and arm height are all set by you. Tell us who will use it most and we will proportion it for them rather than to a standard.

Yes - a pair at either end of a long table is the usual arrangement. Both are built in the same run from the same stock so the carving and finish match, and each is crated separately for transit.

Yes. Gold or champagne leaf, a painted colour you send us, or natural teak with a clear finish. The pewter silver shown reads cooler and deeper than a bright leaf, so the carving comes through tone rather than shine.

Yes, the scatter cushion is supplied with the chair and you choose its fabric. We can make additional cushions or a bolster to match.

A 20-year warranty on the solid teak frame and joinery, including the turned columns, the seat rails and the back frame, plus a lifetime warranty against termite damage on the teak.
