An occasional chair in solid teak, hand-carved, lacquered, gilded and upholstered by master Indian artisans, made entirely to your measurements.

It is the chair for the spot that needs one thing rather than a set - a corner of a bedroom, beside a console, at the end of a hall, or as the odd chair pulled into a seating group when there is one guest too many.

The three-tone finish is what gives it presence at that size. A single-colour chair this slim would disappear; separating the frame, the apron and the legs gives the eye three things to read.

Seat height, seat depth, back height and arm height are all set by you, and the cushion is supplied with the chair.

Order singly or in pairs. Photographs on this page show the actual chair our artisans produced, not a computer render.

A geometric pattern is far harder to upholster than a floral one, and this chair is covered in the hardest kind.

A floral forgives. If a spray sits two millimetres off centre or a stem bends slightly as the cloth goes over a curve, nobody can tell, because the design has no straight lines to measure against.

A lattice has nothing but straight lines. Every diamond is a set of parallels, and the eye reads a parallel line the way it reads a spirit level - instantly, and without being asked. Pull the cloth a fraction unevenly across a domed back and the diamonds stretch on one side and compress on the other, and the whole back looks as though it is leaning.

So a lattice is set from its centre outward. The upholsterer finds the true vertical of the back, marks it on the cloth, aligns one column of diamonds to it, and then works outward in both directions at once - taking equal tension left and right at every stage so the grid stays square as it climbs over the curve.

The seat is then aligned to the back rather than to itself, so that the diamonds appear to continue down from one to the other when you look at the chair from the front.

It takes considerably longer than a plain cover, and it is the reason a lattice looks either extremely good or obviously wrong.

Frame: Solid teak throughout - back frame, seat rails, arms, arm supports and legs. No veneer over engineered board.

Construction: Shaped tall back frame with gilded carved crest, open swan-neck arms on carved supports with gilt terminals, deeply carved gilded apron across the full seat width, square fluted tapered front legs and raked back legs.

Upholstery: Lattice-weave back and sprung seat, set from the centre vertical and aligned between back and seat, with a cushion included. Fabric of your choice; we can source on your behalf.

Finish: Navy lacquered frame, gilded apron and crest, pale silvered legs, as photographed. Any combination of tones can be specified.

Dimensions: Custom sizes made to order - confirmed in writing before production.

Available: Singly or in pairs.

Made: Handcrafted Indian luxury, produced to order by master Indian artisans.

A lacquered navy surface shows a scuff as a pale line, so the wrap laid directly against the frame is soft, lint-free and applied without tension anywhere it could burnish.

The gilded apron runs the full width at knee height and stands proudest on the front of the chair; foam is shaped to bridge over the carving, bearing on the seat rail above rather than into the acanthus.

The swan-neck arms curve outward beyond the seat on both sides and take the first contact through a doorway; each is sleeved along its full length with extra protection at the gilt terminal.

The lattice upholstery is covered in a breathable protective layer applied without compression, so no crease is pressed into the weave in transit.

The pale fluted legs and the raked back legs are each padded individually with rigid guards at the feet. The cushion travels wrapped separately.

The chair then goes into a rigid outer carton braced internally. Ordered as a pair, each is crated separately. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery is included anywhere in India, with no distance surcharge and nothing added at the end. Metros, tier-two cities and smaller towns are served on the same terms, and a pair ships on the same free terms as a single chair.

Production begins once your dimensions, fabric, carving depth and the three finish tones are confirmed in writing. Lacquer, gilding and the silvered legs are separate stages that each need curing time, and upholstery follows all of them - we give you an honest timeline and keep you updated as the chair progresses.

We dispatch through carriers experienced with lacquered, gilded, carved and upholstered furniture, and send tracking details as soon as the chair leaves us.

On arrival our team brings the chair in, sets the cushion, checks it sits firm and level on your floor and removes all packaging. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed - if anything is not right, tell us and we will resolve it.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty - the back frame, the seat rails, the arms and their supports, and every leg joint.

The swan-neck arms are the demanding part here. Each rises, sweeps forward and returns downward in a single member, which means the timber changes direction twice between the seat and the arm terminal. Ours are cut from solid teak with the grain laid to follow the sweep, so the fibre runs continuously through both changes rather than crossing them.

The gilded apron is structural as well as decorative - it spans between the front legs beneath the seat and is carved from solid stock with continuous ribs behind the ornament.

The teak carries a lifetime warranty against termite damage for as long as you own the chair, from the oils in the timber rather than the lacquer over them.

If anything covered needs attention, send us your order details and photographs and our artisans will handle the repair or replacement.

Yes. The frame colour, the gilded apron and the leg tone are three separate choices. Keep them as shown, run any two together, or finish the whole chair in one tone if you prefer something quieter.
