A dining table with high back chairs in solid teak, made to order by master Indian artisans and finished in ivory with gold-picked carving. Eight tall chairs with pierced carved skirts to the floor; a glass-protected top over a carved apron.

Full-height chairs with skirts give a dining room a great deal of presence for the floor area they occupy. Seen from the side, each chair is a carved panel; seen along the table, the row of them frames the room.

The paisley upholstery is what keeps the set warm - against a pale frame it brings the only strong colour in the composition, and a different cloth changes the character of the whole room without changing a single piece of timber.

Handcrafted Indian luxury, built to your dimensions, with a 20-year warranty on frames and joinery, lifetime termite cover, free PAN-India delivery and guaranteed dent-free arrival.

A chair with a carved skirt to the floor looks like a solid object, and that is exactly what it must not be underneath.

If the skirt is built as the structure - if the chair genuinely stands on those pierced panels - then a crack anywhere in the fretwork is a structural failure, and repairing it means dismantling the chair. Fretwork is the most fragile carving there is; making it load-bearing is asking for trouble in year twelve.

So the chair inside is a chair. A conventional frame with four square legs and corner-blocked seat rails is built first, sized and joined exactly as any dining chair would be, and it carries every bit of the load. The carved skirts are then made as separate panels and fixed to the outside of that frame.

The fixings go in from the inside, so nothing shows, and they are screws rather than glue. A damaged skirt panel can be taken off and a new one fitted years later without touching the chair's structure - a morning's work instead of a rebuild.

The result is a chair that looks monolithic and behaves like a well-made frame. Which is the right way round: the appearance is the decoration, and the decoration should never be the thing holding you up.

Set: one dining table with eight high back chairs, made together as one commission.

Frames: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Chair structure: a conventional four-legged frame with corner-blocked seat rails carries all load; the pierced carved skirts are separate panels screwed to it from inside and are removable for repair.

Chair backs: tall, with shaped carved crests over upholstered panels.

Table top: protective glass over the timber top, with a deeply carved apron beneath.

Table legs: shaped and carved from the solid.

Upholstery: paisley weave as photographed; any fabric or leather available.

Finish: hand-applied ivory with gold-picked carving; other tones available.

Options: conventional carved legs instead of skirts; any chair count.

Dimensions: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

The pierced skirts are the most fragile surfaces in the set and they run right down to the floor, so each is packed with shaped foam set into the openings of the fretwork rather than laid across it, and boxed along its lower edge where it meets the ground.

Chairs are crated individually and never nested. The tall crests are padded to their own outlines and the upholstered faces covered in soft non-abrasive sheeting.

The table's glass travels in its own crate, edge-protected all round. The top is face-protected with a rigid board and the carved apron padded continuously.

Unpack the chairs first, then the table, and set the glass last with two people. Lift the chairs by the seat rail rather than by the skirts.

Delivery is free anywhere in India for the whole set, and every piece is guaranteed to arrive dent-free. If anything is wrong when the crates are opened, correcting it is our cost, and we commit to that before you order.

Production begins once the table size, chair count, back height, upholstery and finish are confirmed in writing. Table and chairs are made together and dispatched together so the ivory and gold match exactly.

Dispatch waits for the finish to cure fully. We share the schedule at confirmation, update you as each stage completes, and send tracking as soon as the crates leave us.

Open every crate with the delivery team present, including the glass, and check each piece. Tall chairs need door and stair clearance as much as the table does, so send us your access measurements at the order stage.

Every frame in the set carries a 20-year warranty on solid teak frame and joinery - the table and all eight chairs on identical terms. On these chairs the warranted structure is the frame inside the skirts, which is where the load actually travels.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs on every piece, resting on teak's own oils rather than on an applied treatment, and issued in writing with the set.

Both documents are tied to your order and handed over on delivery. If a covered fault appears on one chair, send photographs and we repair or replace that chair alone.

Upholstery, glass and hand-applied finishes are handled separately. Because the skirt panels are screwed on rather than built in, a damaged panel can be replaced years later without touching the chair's structure - we keep the panel patterns with your specification.
