A living room chair in solid teak, hand-carved and upholstered by master Indian artisans in a silver finish, made entirely to your measurements.

The low back and open arms make it easy to place. It does not block sight lines across a room the way a high-backed chair does, which matters when a chair sits in the middle of a seating arrangement rather than against a wall.

The seat is wide and low, built for sitting back in rather than sitting up straight.

Seat height, seat width, seat depth, back height and arm height are all set by you, and the round cushion is supplied with the chair.

Order singly or as a pair facing a sofa. Photographs on this page show the actual chair our artisans produced, not a computer render.

Carvers think about who is looking, and from where.

On a chair, that question has a clear answer. Anything above the seat is only visible when the chair is empty - the moment someone sits down, the back and the arms are covered by a person. Anything below the seat stays visible always, and it is what you see from a doorway or from across a room where a chair is read as an object rather than as a place to sit.

So the decision on this chair was to put the heaviest work where it will always be seen. The apron below the seat is pierced right through rather than carved in relief, which means it reads as a hard pattern of light and shadow even in flat lighting - and it keeps reading from ten feet away, where relief carving would soften into a texture.

Piercing there also does something for the proportions. A solid carved apron of the same depth would make the chair look heavy and close to the floor. Cutting through it lets the floor show behind, so the seat appears to float above the legs and the whole chair sits lighter in a room.

The brackets under the arms follow the same logic. They are pierced too, and they are placed exactly where the eye travels between the arm and the seat.

Frame: Solid teak throughout - back frame, seat rails, pierced apron, arms, arm supports and legs. No veneer over engineered board.

Construction: Deeply pierced openwork apron running the full width below the seat, pierced carved brackets beneath both arms, shaped top rail with carved crest, scroll arms on shaped supports, inlaid contrast band around the seat frame, carved legs.

Upholstery: Low back, padded arm rests and a sprung seat in fabric of your choice, with a round cushion included. We can source fabric on your behalf.

Finish: Silver as photographed. Gold or champagne leaf, painted tones or natural teak can be specified.

Dimensions: Custom sizes made to order - seat height, width, depth, back height and arm height set by you, confirmed in writing before production.

Available: Singly or in pairs.

Made: Handcrafted Indian luxury, produced to order by master Indian artisans.

Openwork cannot take a load across it, and on this chair the openwork is at the lowest point of the frame where trolley edges and doorframes arrive. The pierced apron is protected with a rigid guard shaped to span its full width, bearing on the seat rail above and the legs at either end so nothing presses into the scrollwork.

The pierced arm brackets are guarded individually on the same principle.

The silvered surfaces are covered first in a soft, lint-free wrap laid on without tension, since a burnished finish marks under pressure long before timber does.

The upholstered back, arms and seat are covered in breathable protective layers that will not compress the filling, and the round cushion travels wrapped separately.

Both arms project beyond the seat and are sleeved along their length with extra protection at the scroll. Each leg is padded with a rigid guard at the foot. The chair then goes into a rigid outer carton braced internally. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery is included anywhere in India, with no distance surcharge and nothing added at the end. Metros, tier-two cities and smaller towns are served on the same terms, and a pair ships on the same free terms as a single chair.

Production begins once your dimensions, fabric, carving depth and finish are confirmed in writing. Piercing the apron is slow bench work and it happens before finishing and upholstery, so the sequence is fixed - we give you an honest timeline and keep you updated as the chair progresses.

We dispatch through carriers experienced with carved and upholstered furniture, and send tracking details as soon as the chair leaves us.

On arrival our team brings the chair in, positions it, sets the cushion, checks it sits firm and level on your floor and removes all packaging. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed - if anything is not right, tell us and we will resolve it.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty - the back frame, the seat rails, the pierced apron, the arms and their supports, and every leg joint.

A pierced apron has to be planned as structure, not applied as decoration. It sits directly beneath the seat frame and spans between the front legs, so the pattern is laid out with continuous ribs of timber running from one leg to the other and the openings placed between them. Cut it the other way round and it becomes a weak point exactly where the seat needs support.

The pierced brackets under the arms work the same way - each carries load from the arm into the seat rail through solid ribs within the pattern.

The teak carries a lifetime warranty against termite damage for as long as you own the chair, from the oils in the timber rather than the finish over them.

If anything covered needs attention, send us your order details and photographs and our artisans will handle the repair or replacement.
