A luxury chair in solid teak, hand-carved, gilded and upholstered by master Indian artisans, made entirely to your measurements.

It is a low, wide, comfortable chair rather than a formal one - a seat to settle into beside a sofa or in a bedroom, with real depth and a proper cushion.

Running two coverings gives you two decisions instead of one, and the corded trim is a third: it can match either fabric, contrast with both, or be picked in the gold of the frame.

Seat height, seat width, seat depth, back height and arm height are all set by you, and the cushion is supplied with the chair.

Order singly or in pairs. Photographs on this page show the actual chair our artisans produced, not a computer render.

Cord and braid on upholstery look like decoration and started as engineering.

Wherever two panels of cloth meet on a chair, there is a seam - and a seam is the weakest line on any upholstered surface. It is where the fabric is under most tension, where the stitching is exposed, and where wear begins. Left bare, it frays first and it shows every unevenness in the pull of the cloth on either side.

A cord laid into that seam solves three problems at once. It covers the stitching. It takes the abrasion that would otherwise fall on the seam itself. And it gives the upholsterer a defined line to work to, so the two panels can be tensioned independently and still meet cleanly.

It also does something purely visual that nothing else does: it draws the outline of the chair. Follow the cord on this one and it traces the shape of the seat, the sweep of the arm and the curve of the back - so the eye reads the form even from across a room where the pattern in the cloth has flattened out.

Which is why the cord is stitched in rather than glued on. A glued trim is a decoration that can lift. A stitched one is part of the seam it protects, and it lasts as long as the cover does.

Frame: Solid teak throughout - back frame, seat rails, arms, arm supports and legs. No veneer over engineered board.

Construction: Gilded carved open arms with foliage cut along their length and scrolled terminals, carved crest above a raked back, carved sprays at the arm-to-seat junctions, cabriole legs with carved shoulders and feet.

Upholstery: Damask back with an upholstered outside back, deep domed velvet seat, and a cushion with a hand-made tassel. Corded trim stitched into every seam. All materials of your choice; we can source on your behalf.

Finish: Hand-applied gold leaf, burnished. Silver or champagne leaf, painted tones or natural teak can be specified.

Dimensions: Custom sizes made to order - confirmed in writing before production.

Available: Singly or in pairs.

Made: Handcrafted Indian luxury, produced to order by master Indian artisans.

Corded trim stands proud of the surface it protects, which makes it the first thing any pressure reaches - so nothing bears on a trimmed edge in transit. Protective covers are applied loosely over the upholstery and all bracing bears on the gilded frame instead.

Velvet is easily marked because pressure flattens the pile, so the seat is covered in a breathable layer applied without compression, and the cushion with its tassel travels wrapped separately.

The gilded carving is covered first in a soft, lint-free wrap laid on without tension, since burnished leaf marks under pressure long before timber does.

Both arms sweep well beyond the seat and take contact first through a doorway; each is sleeved along its full length with additional protection at the carved scrolled terminal and along the foliate carving on top.

Each cabriole leg is padded with a rigid guard at the foot. The chair then goes into a rigid outer carton braced internally. Ordered as a pair, each is crated separately. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery is included anywhere in India, with no distance surcharge and nothing added at the end. Metros, tier-two cities and smaller towns are served on the same terms, and a pair ships on the same free terms as a single chair.

Production begins once your dimensions, both fabrics, the trim, carving depth and finish are confirmed in writing. Trim is made to the chair and stitched into each seam as the covering goes on, so upholstery follows the frame being carved, gilded and cured - we give you an honest timeline and keep you updated as it progresses.

We dispatch through carriers experienced with gilded, carved and upholstered furniture, and send tracking details as soon as the chair leaves us.

On arrival our team brings the chair in, sets the cushion, checks it sits firm and level on your floor and removes all packaging. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed - if anything is not right, tell us and we will resolve it.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty - the back frame, the seat rails, the arms and their supports, and every leg joint.

The arms on this design sweep a long way forward from the back with no support beneath their front ends, so each is jointed into both the back frame and the seat rail rather than relying on one end. That is the joint people load every time they push up out of a low chair.

A wide, deep seat also spans further between the front legs than a formal chair seat does, so the seat rails are cut deeper from solid stock.

The teak carries a lifetime warranty against termite damage for as long as you own the chair, from the oils in the timber rather than the leaf over them.

If anything covered needs attention, send us your order details and photographs and our artisans will handle the repair or replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

It covers the stitching where two panels of cloth meet, takes the wear that would otherwise fall on the seam, and gives the upholsterer a defined line so each panel can be tensioned properly. It also draws the outline of the chair from across a room.

Yes. It can match the back fabric, match the seat, contrast with both, or be picked in a gold tone to relate to the frame. It is one of the three covering decisions on this chair.

Yes. Two coverings as shown, or one across the back, seat and cushion. We will advise honestly on how each option balances before anything is cut.

Yes, when it is cut and trimmed properly - the corded edge protects the seam that would wear first, and the pile is run so it works with the way weight moves it. Ordinary care is brushing with the pile and keeping it out of harsh direct sunlight.

Yes - the outside back is upholstered in the same damask, so it can stand away from a wall or be angled across a corner rather than needing something to hide against.

To your measurements. Seat height, width, depth, back height and arm height are all set by you - tell us who will use it most and we will proportion it for them.

Yes. Silver or champagne leaf, a painted colour you send us, or natural teak with a clear finish. All leaf is hand-applied over a prepared ground and burnished by hand.

A 20-year warranty on the solid teak frame and joinery, including the sweeping arms jointed at both ends and every leg joint, plus a lifetime warranty against termite damage on the teak.
