A display almirah in solid teak, hand-built and hand-painted, with a walnut-toned frame and cream painted panels.

Two glazed doors open onto glass shelves, with the interior back divided into painted panels rather than left plain - so the cabinet reads as furnished inside even before anything is put in it.

Above, the pediment arches up to a carved shell crest, and a painted frieze runs along the cornice beneath it. Below, the base rail is shaped and painted to match, with a carved shell at the centre and splayed carved legs at the corners.

The contrast between the two finishes is what makes the piece: the dark frame draws the outline and the pale panels fill it, so the almirah has a clear structure rather than reading as one continuous surface.

Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

The carved shell crest at the top of this almirah sits on a curved cornice, and that is a harder thing to fit than it appears.

A crest standing on a flat cornice is simple: cut its underside flat and it beds down all along its length. But this cornice arches. The underside of the crest has to be hollowed to exactly the same curve, and not the curve on the drawing - the curve of the actual cabinet, after the cornice has been made, fitted, cleaned up and finished, by which point it is never quite the drawn line.

So the crest is carved with surplus material deliberately left across its whole underside. It is then taken to the finished cabinet and scribed: held against the cornice, its underside marked to follow the real curve, taken back to the bench, cut to that mark, and offered up again. Usually more than once.

Done properly, the crest sits down on the cornice with no shadow gap anywhere along its base and no packing behind it. That continuous contact is what makes a crest look grown out of the cabinet rather than placed on top of it.

Material: solid teak in the carcass, uprights, door frames, pediment, base rail and legs.

Doors: two glazed doors with polished timber frames and tassel pulls.

Interior: glass shelves on concealed supports, with the back divided into hand-painted panels.

Top: arched pediment with a painted frieze and a carved shell crest scribed to the cornice curve.

Base: shaped and painted base rail with a carved central shell, on splayed carved legs.

Finish: walnut-toned polish to the frame, cream painted panels with hand-painted scrollwork, gold lining to the panel edges.

Made to order: height, width, depth, shelf count and spacing, painted design and finish are all customisable. Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Painted panels and a polished frame mark in different ways, so acid-free tissue is laid over both before anything else - directly against the paint on the frieze, base and interior panels, and directly against the polish on the frame and pediment.

Foam sheet follows, then bubble wrap, with rigid board over the largest painted areas.

The doors are unhung and crated flat, panes taped across the face and foam-sleeved apart from the frames.

The carved shell crest is boxed on its own with foam moulded around the profile - it is scribed to this cabinet specifically and cannot simply be replaced, so it never travels attached.

Each leg is detached where the design allows, sleeved in foam and boxed with blocking at its narrowest point. Glass shelves ship in a slotted box with dividers.

Hardwood crates throughout, corner-protected and marked for orientation. Multi-layer protective packaging is included on every order at no extra cost.

Production begins once your dimensions are confirmed in writing. We photograph your actual almirah through the build - the frame polished, the panels painted, the crest scribed and sitting down on the cornice, and the finished cabinet glazed.

On site, our team assembles the almirah on its legs and levels it in both directions, then fits the crest, hangs the doors and installs the glass shelves.

Send us lift dimensions, stair turns and doorway widths before dispatch so the route can be planned in advance. Every photograph on this page is of the actual product, not a render.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty - the carcass, the uprights, the door frames, the pediment, the base rail and the leg joints that carry the whole piece.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the almirah and never expires. Teak's natural oils are its own defence and our warranty stands behind them.

Glass, shelves, supports and hardware are covered against manufacturing defect.

Two different finishes meet on this cabinet - a polish and a paint - and both are recorded against your order number, along with the painted designs. A retouch on a piece like this has to match colour, sheen and brushwork, so we work from that record rather than by eye. Contact us with your order number and we will arrange it.
