A beige high back chair in solid teak, made to order by master Indian artisans and finished by hand. Rolled wings, scrolled arms and a fully buttoned back give it a soft outline; the carved apron and cabriole legs keep it formal underneath.

A tonal beige chair sits quietly in a room, which makes it useful where the walls, the art or a rug are already doing the work. Placed by a window or beside a bed it reads as part of the architecture rather than as an object placed against it.

The loose seat cushion means the seat can be turned and plumped, and it can be re-covered on its own if you want to refresh the chair without touching the buttoned back. The scatter cushion is made from the same cloth or from a contrast, as you prefer.

Handcrafted Indian luxury, built to your measurements, with a 20-year warranty on the frame and joinery, lifetime termite cover, free PAN-India delivery and guaranteed dent-free arrival.

Two wings that roll outward have to roll by the same amount, and the eye is unforgiving about it. A difference of half an inch in the radius of one roll is invisible on the bench and obvious the moment the chair is viewed square from the front.

Stuffing to a measurement does not solve it, because a roll is a curve rather than a dimension - you can hit the same height and the same width with two quite different profiles. So the upholsterer works to a profile gauge instead: a thin board cut to the intended curve, notched to sit against the wing frame in one fixed position.

The gauge is offered up as the stuffing builds, on one wing and then immediately on the other, and the filling is added or taken back until the board sits flush along its whole edge on both sides. Only then is the cover pulled.

The gauge is kept with the job, so if the chair is ever re-covered - by us, years later - the wings can be rebuilt to exactly the profile they were made with. It is a piece of scrap board that outlives several sets of fabric.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Wings: rolled outward at the top, both built to a single profile gauge so the two curves match.

Back: deep-buttoned across the full height in a diamond grid.

Arms: upholstered and rolled, finishing in carved scroll terminals.

Seat: loose cushion, reversible, with a matching or contrast scatter cushion.

Apron: carved across the front with a centred shell.

Legs: cabriole front legs with carved knees and scrolled feet.

Joinery: mortise and tenon, corner-blocked at the seat rails.

Finish: hand-applied tonal gold as photographed; gilt, silver, ebonised, walnut and natural teak also available.

Dimensions: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

The rolled wings are the widest part of the chair and the first thing to meet a doorway, so each is padded around its full curve with foam formed to the roll rather than wrapped flat against it.

The upholstery is covered first in soft non-abrasive sheeting so nothing firmer touches the cloth or presses a button head into the surface. The loose seat cushion travels wrapped separately and set inside the crate rather than left on the seat, so it cannot be compressed under strapping.

Arm scrolls, the apron shell and the leg knees are then padded individually. Bubble wrap, a corrugated shell and an outer crate cut to the chair follow, with corner protection at every load-bearing point.

To unpack, cut the strapping, lift the shell away, take the wrapping down from the top and put the seat cushion in last. A light brush over the cloth settles anything flattened in transit.

Delivery is free anywhere in India and the chair is guaranteed to arrive dent-free. If it is not right when the crate is opened, correcting it is our cost, and we say so before you order rather than after.

Production starts once the fabric, the finish and the measurements are confirmed in writing. We share the schedule then and update you as carving, wing profiling, upholstery and finishing complete.

Dispatch follows full curing of the hand-applied finish. Tracking is shared as soon as the crate leaves us, and our team agrees the delivery slot with you directly.

Please check the chair with the delivery team present when the crate is opened. A winged chair is wide across the top as well as tall, so send us your doorway, lift and stair measurements at the order stage and we build wing width and back height to clear your route.

The solid teak frame and its joinery carry a 20-year warranty. On a winged chair the frame includes the wing structure, which takes the load every time someone pushes off it to stand, and that is covered along with everything else.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs alongside, based on teak's own oils rather than on any applied treatment. It is issued as a written undertaking with the chair.

Both documents are tied to your order and handed to you on delivery, so the record is yours. If a covered fault appears, photographs come first and we then arrange repair or replacement of the part concerned.

Fabric, buttoning and the hand-applied finish are wearing surfaces and are handled separately, but we re-cover and re-finish our own chairs at any age. The wing profile gauge is kept with your specification, so a re-cover years from now rebuilds the wings to exactly the same curve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

Yes. Beige keeps the chair tonal and quiet; a deep green, navy or printed weave on the same frame makes it far more assertive. Send us your own cloth or choose from our range - the choice does not change the price of the frame.

Loose and reversible, so it can be turned and plumped, and re-covered on its own later without touching the buttoned back. The scatter cushion is made in the same cloth or a contrast, as you prefer.

With a profile gauge - a board cut to the intended curve and offered up to each wing as the stuffing builds, alternating between the two until it sits flush on both. The gauge is kept with your specification for any future re-cover.

Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production. Give us seat height, seat depth, back height and how wide across the wings you want it, or the space involved, and we build to those figures.

Yes, solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans. Nothing is veneered, which is why the frame can be re-finished and the carving re-cut at any point in the chair's life.

20 years on the solid teak frame and joinery, including the wing structure, plus a lifetime warranty against termite damage. Both come in writing with the chair and are tied to your order.

Free, anywhere in India. The wings are padded around their full curve, the seat cushion travels wrapped separately, and the whole chair is crated in multi-layer protective packaging with dent-free arrival guaranteed.

Yes. Every photograph is of the actual chair we made, not a computer rendering, so the wing roll, the buttoning and the finish are shown exactly as they left the workshop.
