A silvered carved teak throne chair with lion arms and a cream buttoned back, made to order by Brown Rabbit.

Because both the frame and the upholstery are pale, this chair depends entirely on shadow for its definition - which makes the depth of the carving and the depth of the buttoning the two things that decide how it looks.

Both are adjustable. Deeper buttoning gives a more pronounced diamond and a stronger pattern of shadow; shallower gives a smoother, quieter back.

Any upholstery can be used, and the frame is available in silver, gold, champagne, ivory or ebonised black. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

Silver leaf on a chair with figure carving raises a question gold does not: how bright to leave the faces.

Burnished to full brightness, a silvered lion head becomes a mirror. It picks up every reflection in the room, and the modelling that the carver spent days on disappears into a confusion of bright and dark that has nothing to do with the form.

So on figure work our artisans burnish the raised planes - the brow, the bridge of the nose, the top of the mane - and deliberately leave the recesses matt, killing the reflectivity where the shadows need to sit. The head then reads as a modelled object rather than as a reflective one.

The frame carving around it is treated the opposite way, burnished more evenly, because scrollwork has no anatomy to lose and benefits from the brightness. Two different approaches to the same silver on the same chair, decided by whether the shape being described is a face or a curve.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans and silvered.

Structure: tall back with pierced shield crest and scrolling foliage each side; lion heads at the arm fronts; carved paw front feet; carved apron.

Finishing: raised planes of the figure carving burnished and the recesses left matt so the modelling reads; frame scrollwork burnished more evenly.

Upholstery: deep-buttoned back with crystal buttons, depth adjustable; cream as photographed or the fabric of your choosing.

Finish options: silver as photographed; gold, champagne, ivory and ebonised black available.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

Silver shows a scuff as a bright mark and pale upholstery shows any transfer, so both are faced before anything else.

The whole silvered frame is faced with a clean non-transferring layer, and the upholstery is covered with a breathable wrap.

Each lion head is wrapped and capped with a moulded cover clear of the muzzle, the paw feet are capped at floor level, and the pierced shield crest is packed with foam through its openings.

The buttoned back is given a standoff board on foam blocks. Everything then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery anywhere in India is included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no small-town surcharge.

Production begins once your dimensions, upholstery, buttoning depth and finish are confirmed in writing. Figure carving takes longer than ornament and the production window reflects it honestly.

The shipment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is ours to honour.

Tell us your doorway and stair dimensions when you order and we plan the crate around them before the chair leaves the workshop.

Brown Rabbit warrants the solid teak frame and its joinery for 20 years - the seat rails, the leg and paw joints, the arm structure carrying the lion heads, the back frame and the crest.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the chair for as long as you own it, resting on teak's natural termite resistance and confirmed in writing.

The silvered surface is sealed against tarnish as part of the finishing process. Buttoning can be re-tensioned and covers remade over the years without disturbing the carving.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order so the cover is agreed before production begins.
