A bedroom chair in solid teak with a tall wing back, made to order by master Indian artisans and finished in hand-laid gold. The buttoned ivory back is enclosed by full-height wings; the seat and cushion are in a rose print.

Its footprint is narrow, so it fits the strip of floor beside a bed, the corner of a dressing room or the space between a wardrobe and a window - places where a chair is wanted but a wide one will not go. The height gives it presence in that narrow space rather than making it look squeezed in.

Splitting the two cloths puts the plain colour where you lean and the pattern where you sit. Either can be reversed, or the whole chair made in one fabric, whichever suits the room.

Handcrafted Indian luxury, built to your dimensions, with a 20-year warranty on the frame and joinery, lifetime termite cover, free PAN-India delivery and guaranteed dent-free arrival.

A tall chair on a narrow footprint has an obvious problem: leaned against, it wants to go backward. The usual answers are to make the base wider, which defeats the point of a narrow chair, or to weight it, which makes it a nuisance to move.

Our answer is in the back legs. They are raked - set to lean backward - so that the point where each foot meets the floor sits behind the line of the back itself. That pushes the chair's footprint rearward without widening it, and a person leaning back is then still within the base rather than beyond it.

The rake has to be judged rather than maximised. Too little and the chair feels tippy under a full lean; too much and the foot sticks out where a heel can catch it, and the chair stops sitting neatly against a wall. We set it from the finished back height, so a taller back gets more rake and a shorter one less, and the pair of back legs is cut together from one setting so both match.

Because the legs are carved, the rake is built into the leg blank before any carving starts. It cannot be added afterwards, which is why it is decided at the drawing stage from the dimensions you give us.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Back: tall and narrow, buttoned in a diamond grid, with full-height wings turning inward at the top.

Upholstery: ivory on the back and inner wings; rose print on the seat and scatter cushion; any combination available.

Arms: low arm rails with pierced carved scrollwork along the front face.

Rear legs: raked backward, with the rake set from the finished back height and both legs cut from one setting.

Front legs: cabriole with carved knees and shaped toes.

Apron: carved and pierced across the front and sides.

Finish: hand-laid gold as photographed; silver, ebonised, walnut and natural teak also available.

Joinery: mortise and tenon, corner-blocked at the seat rails.

Dimensions: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

The pierced scrollwork along the arm fronts is the finest carving on this chair and the part closest to a doorway when it is carried, so it is packed first, with shaped foam set into the openings rather than laid across them.

The upholstery is covered in soft non-abrasive sheeting laid on loosely, so nothing presses a button into the ivory back or marks the printed seat. The scatter cushion travels wrapped separately inside the crate.

The crest, the wing tops and the raked back feet are each padded individually - the back feet project rearward and are easy to knock, so they get the same treatment as the carving. Bubble wrap, a corrugated shell and an outer crate cut to the chair follow, with corner protection throughout.

Unpack from the top down after cutting the strapping, and place the cushion last. Nothing needs dismantling and no fixing has to be undone.

Delivery is free anywhere in India and the chair is guaranteed to arrive dent-free. If it is not right when the crate is opened, correcting it is our cost, committed before you order rather than after.

Production starts once both fabrics, the finish and the measurements are confirmed in writing. Because the leg rake is set from the finished back height, the dimensions are settled before any timber is cut, and we share the schedule at that point.

Dispatch follows full curing of the hand-laid finish. Tracking is shared as soon as the crate leaves us, and our team agrees the delivery window with you directly.

Check the chair with the delivery team present when the crate is opened. A tall back needs door and stair clearance, so send us your access measurements at the order stage and we build a height that clears the route into the bedroom.

The solid teak frame and its joinery carry a 20-year warranty. On a tall chair, the joints between the back posts and the seat rails carry the leverage of every lean, and those joints are corner-blocked and covered along with the rest of the structure.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs alongside it, based on teak's own oil content rather than on an applied treatment, and issued in writing with the chair.

Both documents are tied to your order and handed to you at delivery, so the record is yours to keep. If a covered fault appears, send photographs first and we then arrange repair or replacement of the affected part.

Fabrics, buttoning and the hand-laid finish are wearing surfaces and sit outside the structural cover, but we re-cover and re-finish our own chairs at any age. Your specification stays on file, including both cloths and the leg rake, so a re-cover years later reproduces the chair exactly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

That is what it is shaped for - tall rather than wide, with a narrow footprint. Send us the width of the space you have and we build the chair to fit it, since every one is made to your measurements.

Yes. A single plain cloth makes the chair considerably quieter and a single print makes it bolder. You can also reverse the arrangement, with the pattern on the back and a plain seat.

So the footprint extends behind the line of the back and a person leaning back stays within the base. It gives a tall, narrow chair its stability without making the base wider or the chair heavier.

Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production. Give us the seat height, seat depth, back height and the width available, and we cut the frame to those figures.

Yes, solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans. The raked back legs are cut from solid blanks with the rake built in before carving, which is only possible in full-section timber.

Yes. Silver, ebonised black, walnut and clear natural teak all work on the same carving, each laid by hand so the recesses stay open and the pierced detail keeps its depth.

20 years on the solid teak frame and joinery, including the corner-blocked joints between the back posts and seat rails, plus a lifetime warranty against termite damage. Both come in writing with the chair.

Delivery is free anywhere in India. The pierced arm fronts are packed with foam set into their openings, the raked back feet are padded individually, and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.
