A wedding throne chair in gilded solid teak with a pierced arched back and buttoned maroon velvet. It is built for the moment everyone is looking - a wedding stage, a reception, a mandap, an engagement setting - and it photographs as well from thirty feet away as it does up close, which is what a chair like this has to do.

Master Indian artisans carve every part by hand from seasoned solid teak. The arch is pierced right through so light passes behind the carving, the swan arms are worked in the round, and the arm boxes and front rail carry their own foliate work.

The chair is made to order. Choose the velvet, choose the gold tone, and set the width and height. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production. It comes with a 20-year warranty on the teak frame and joinery, a lifetime warranty against termite damage, free PAN-India delivery with guaranteed dent-free arrival, and multi-layer protective packaging.

The arch above the seat is cut right through, and the order in which that happens is the difference between crisp openwork and a ragged edge.

Every void starts as a drilled hole, just large enough to pass a saw blade. The blade is threaded through, the frame is closed around it, and the carver saws to the marked line from inside the opening outward. Then the blade comes out and goes into the next hole. A panel like this one has dozens of openings, and the blade is threaded and unthreaded for every single one.

The direction matters more than the sawing. Wood breaks out on the face where the tool exits, not where it enters, so all of it is cut from the back. Whatever splintering happens lands on the hidden side, and the front face - the one that will be seen from across a hall - comes up clean.

Only after the panel is fully pierced does the carving begin, working the leaves and stems in relief across the bridges of wood that remain. Carve first and saw second, and every stroke risks snapping something already finished. Saw first, carve second: slower to set out, and the only order that reliably works.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans, with traditional joinery at every junction.

Back: tall arched panel pierced with foliate openwork, framing a shaped deep-buttoned upholstered cushion, under a carved crest.

Arms: carved swan figures over pierced and carved arm boxes.

Seat: wide upholstered platform, supplied with a bolster and a tasselled round cushion.

Front rail: carved scrolling foliage across a shaped apron.

Legs: carved cabriole legs finishing in paw feet.

Upholstery: maroon velvet with deep buttoning and stone detailing as photographed. Any velvet or fabric can be used instead, including your own material.

Finish: hand-applied gold over the carving. Silver, champagne, antiqued gold or plain polished teak are all available.

Size: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are of the actual product, not renders.

The pierced arch is the fragile part of this chair, and it is also the tallest, so it gets the most attention in packing.

The openwork is supported before it is wrapped - shaped foam is fitted into the larger voids so the bridges of carving between them cannot flex, and a foam frame runs around the outer edge of the arch. The swan heads, the carved crest, the arm boxes and the paw feet each get their own collar. A soft non-abrasive layer covers all the gilded surfaces first so nothing coarse touches the finish.

Corrugated panels then build a rigid shell around the whole chair, with the base blocked and braced so the weight rests on the frame rather than on the arch. The outer carton is edge-reinforced so any stacked weight in transit is carried by the packaging. The velvet, the bolster and the round cushion are wrapped separately in a breathable cover that keeps dust off without pressing the pile. It all lifts away by hand, no blades needed.

Free PAN-India delivery is part of the price - no zone rates, no distance charges, no freight line at checkout. The chair reaches Udaipur for the same cost as Hyderabad.

Dent-free arrival is guaranteed. It leaves in multi-layer protective packaging, travels with handlers briefed on pierced and gilded carving, and is checked at every transfer point. If anything is not right when you open it, tell us and we make it right - the guarantee is ours to honour rather than the transporter's.

Because the chair is made to order, production begins once your velvet, finish and measurements are confirmed in writing. If you have a wedding date, tell us at enquiry and we will confirm in writing whether the timeline works before you commit - we would rather agree a date we can hold than promise one we cannot. You get updates through carving, gilding and upholstery, and a dispatch note with an expected delivery window.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty. On a throne chair that covers the tall arched back and the joints holding it upright, the seat platform, the arm boxes and the carved legs. If a joint opens or a member fails within those twenty years, we repair or replace it.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with it and never expires. Teak's own oils are why termites leave it alone, and our seasoning and finishing routine is built to preserve them, so the timber is guaranteed for as long as the chair is yours.

Chairs like this are often bought for one occasion and then kept, or used season after season by venues and decorators. Either way the warranty is the same, and it is possible because the chair is built start to finish in our own workshop by the master Indian artisans who make every piece we sell, from timber we season ourselves. Your warranty registers automatically with the order - your order number is all a claim needs.
