A high back throne chair in gilded solid teak with standing lion arms and deep-buttoned leather. The height is the point - it carries a room the way a normal armchair cannot, which is why chairs like this end up at the head of a hall, in a lobby, behind a desk, or on a stage.

Master Indian artisans carve every element by hand from seasoned solid teak. The lions are worked in the round and are structural, carrying the arm load to the floor through their own legs. The crown at the crest and the pierced foliage down the sides of the back are cut from solid stock.

It is made to order. Choose the leather or fabric, the gold or silver tone, the back height and the seat width. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production. It comes with a 20-year warranty on the teak frame and joinery, a lifetime warranty against termite damage, free PAN-India delivery with guaranteed dent-free arrival, and multi-layer protective packaging.

A back this tall cannot be flat, and the reason is anatomy rather than style.

Shoulders are not flat. A flat back panel touches a sitter at two points - the shoulder blades - and leaves a gap behind the spine, so the shoulders are pushed forward and the head follows. On a low chair nobody notices, because the back stops below the shoulder line. On a chair like this, where the panel runs from the seat past the head, a flat face would be uncomfortable within minutes.

So the back is curved across its width - shallow, but continuous, following the shape of a person's back rather than the shape of a board. The rails at the top and bottom of the back frame are cut to that curve from stock thicker than the finished rail, so the grain runs along the curve rather than being forced into it. Cutting the shape out of thicker material costs wood; bending a straight rail into place would cost strength, because the timber would be under permanent tension.

The curve is subtle enough that most people never see it. They just find that the chair holds them upright instead of pushing them forward.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans, with traditional joinery at every junction.

Back: tall arched panel, curved across its width, deep-buttoned inside a gilded carved frame, with pierced foliate carving down both sides.

Crest: carved crown above the arch.

Arms: standing lions carved in the round, structural to the floor, with upholstered rolled arm tops.

Seat: upholstered seat on a sprung and padded frame.

Apron: carved gilded apron across the full width below the seat.

Legs: carved legs finishing in paw feet.

Upholstery: brown buttoned leather as photographed. Any leather or fabric can be used instead, including your own material.

Finish: hand-applied gold on the carving. Silver, champagne, antiqued tones or plain polished teak are also available.

Size: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are of the actual product, not renders.

Height and weight together are what make this chair awkward to move, so the packing is designed to keep every load off the back and on the base.

A foam frame runs around the entire outer edge of the back, including the pierced foliage down both sides, so side contact is taken at the perimeter rather than across the carving. The crown at the crest gets its own collar standing proud of its points. The lions get deep collars around head, mane and paws.

A soft non-abrasive layer covers all the gilded surfaces and the leather so nothing coarse touches either. Corrugated panels then build a rigid shell around the chair, with the base blocked and braced so the full weight rests on the seat frame and the lions' feet. The outer carton is edge-reinforced. The leather travels under a breathable cover that keeps dust off without holding moisture against the hide. Everything unwraps by hand, no blades needed.

Free PAN-India delivery is included - no zone rates, no distance surcharge, no freight line at checkout. The chair costs the same delivered to Siliguri as to Solapur.

Dent-free arrival is guaranteed. It leaves in multi-layer protective packaging, travels with handlers briefed on tall gilded carved furniture, and is checked at every transfer point. If anything is not right when you open it, tell us and we make it right - the guarantee sits with us and not with the transporter.

Because the chair is made to order, production begins once your leather, finish and measurements are confirmed in writing. On a chair this tall it is worth telling us about doorways, lift sizes or stairwells at enquiry - we would rather size it to reach the room than deliver something that will not go up. You get updates through carving, gilding and upholstery, and a dispatch note with an expected delivery window.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty. On a chair this tall that matters most at the bottom of the back, where the height acts as leverage on the joints - and those, along with the seat frame, the lion figures, the apron and the legs, are exactly what is covered. If a joint opens or a member fails within those twenty years, we repair or replace it.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs alongside it with no end date. Teak's natural oils are what keep termites away, and our seasoning and finishing routine is built around preserving them, so the timber is guaranteed for as long as the chair is yours.

These terms hold because the chair is built start to finish in our own workshop by the master Indian artisans who make every piece we sell, from timber we season ourselves. Registration is automatic with your order - your order number is all a claim ever needs.
