A gaddi sofa in gilded solid teak with a rust velvet seat and bolsters. The low plinth and wide seat are the traditional ceremonial proportion - comfortable cross-legged, easy to dress with cushions, and photographs well from the front, which is why it suits a wedding stage, a mehndi or sangeet setting, or a drawing room where floor-level seating is wanted.

Master Indian artisans carve every element by hand from seasoned solid teak. The plinth bands are cut as continuous runs of repeating ornament, the back frame is carved from solid stock, and the figure at the apex is worked in the round.

It is made to order. Choose the velvet, the gold or silver tone, the plinth width and the back height, and set the cushion arrangement. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production. It comes with a 20-year warranty on the teak frame and joinery, a lifetime warranty against termite damage, free PAN-India delivery with guaranteed dent-free arrival, and multi-layer protective packaging.

Look at the corners of the plinth. Each band of ornament arrives at the corner with a complete motif, not half of one. That is the whole problem with wrapping a repeat around a box, and it is solved before any carving starts.

A repeating band has a fixed unit - a leaf, a petal, an arch. Divide the length of a plinth face by that unit and you will almost never get a whole number. Carve it anyway, working from one end, and the last unit before the corner gets cut in half. Do that on four faces at four corners and the piece looks like it was made from offcuts, no matter how good the carving is.

So the unit is adjusted instead of the face. The carver measures each face, decides how many units it should carry, and divides to get the exact repeat length for that face - usually a millimetre or two different from the drawn ideal. Every unit on that face is then set out to the adjusted figure, so the band starts whole at one corner and finishes whole at the other.

Nobody looking at the finished plinth can tell that the repeat on the front is fractionally wider than the repeat on the end. They can tell, instantly, when a corner is wrong.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans, with traditional joinery at every junction.

Back: carved gilded frame around an upholstered panel, with scrolled shoulders, a central shell and a carved figure at the apex.

Seat: wide low upholstered platform, supplied with two tasselled round bolsters and a quilted lumbar cushion.

Plinth: deep gilded base banded with repeating carved ornament on all sides, on turned bun feet.

Upholstery: rust velvet as photographed. Any velvet or fabric can be used instead, including your own material.

Finish: hand-applied gold over the carving. Silver, champagne, antiqued tones or plain polished teak are also available.

Size: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are of the actual product, not renders.

The plinth is the heavy part and the carved bands run right to its outer faces, so the packing has to hold the weight without pressing on the ornament.

Foam blocks are fitted under the plinth at the bun feet so the whole weight sits on the base structure, and a foam frame runs around all four banded faces so nothing contacts the carving directly. The figure at the apex gets its own collar standing proud of it, and the scrolled shoulders of the back frame are collared individually.

A soft non-abrasive layer covers all the gilded surfaces first so nothing coarse touches gold. Corrugated panels then build a rigid shell around the piece, and the outer carton is edge-reinforced so stacked weight in transit is carried by the packaging. The velvet, the bolsters and the lumbar cushion travel under a breathable cover that keeps dust off without pressing the pile. Everything unwraps by hand.

Free PAN-India delivery is included in the price - no zone rates, no distance surcharge, no freight line at checkout. The same cost delivered to Rourkela as to Rohtak.

Dent-free arrival is guaranteed. The piece leaves in multi-layer protective packaging, travels with handlers briefed on gilded carved furniture, and is checked at every transfer point. If anything is not right when you open it, tell us and we make it right - the guarantee sits with us, not with the transporter.

Because it is made to order, production begins once your velvet, finish and measurements are confirmed in writing. If the piece is for a fixed date, tell us at enquiry and we will confirm in writing whether the timeline can be met before you commit. You get updates through carving, gilding and upholstery, and a dispatch note with an expected delivery window.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty. On a piece built around a plinth that covers the plinth frame and its banded faces, the seat platform, the back frame and the joints holding it upright. If a joint opens or a member fails within those twenty years, we repair or replace it.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs alongside it and never expires. Teak's natural oils are what keep termites away, and our seasoning and finishing routine is built around preserving them, so the timber is guaranteed for as long as the piece is yours.

Gaddi seating often gets used season after season for functions and then kept at home afterwards, and the warranty is the same in both cases. It holds because the sofa is made from start to finish in our own workshop by the master Indian artisans who build everything we sell, from timber we season ourselves. Registration is automatic with your order.
