A gilded teak wall mirror for the dining room, with a bevelled oval plate, ribbon-twist border, flower swags and an urn-and-ribbon crest, hand-carved and made to order by Brown Rabbit.

Height is the decision that matters in a dining room. The mirror is looked at mostly by seated people, so the centre of the oval usually wants to fall lower than it would in a hall - closer to seated eye level than standing. Tell us your table height and the wall dimensions and we will set it accordingly.

If the mirror faces a chandelier or a run of candles, the bevel does real work: it picks up the flames at the edge of the plate and repeats them as a ring of light. Let us know what the mirror will face and we can set the bevel width to suit.

The frame can be fully gilded as shown or gilded over a coloured ground, and the plate can be plain if you prefer. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

The ribbon that spirals around the oval is a single continuous twist, and getting it to close is a piece of arithmetic done before any carving starts.

A twist has a pitch - the distance along the frame that one full turn occupies. Set the pitch by eye and the ribbon will arrive back at its starting point mid-turn, leaving a visible stutter where the two ends meet. So our artisans measure the full length of the oval's centre line first, divide it by a whole number of turns, and use the result as the pitch. The twist then closes on itself exactly.

Because the oval's curvature changes - tight at the ends, flat along the flanks - the ribbon is also made slightly wider where the curve is tightest, so the width appears constant to a viewer standing in front of it.

The join is placed at the bottom of the oval, under the flower swag, which is where nobody looks. Everything else about the twist is designed to be looked at.

Material: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Structure: rectangular outer frame with corner blocks and urn finials; inner oval frame with a carved ribbon-twist border; flower swags and a ribbon-tied crest joined to the frame.

Finish: hand-laid gilding, burnished on the twist and the swags. Gilding over a coloured ground, silver, ivory, champagne, black with gold and natural teak also available.

Plate: bevelled oval mirror glass as photographed, bevel width to suit; plain plate available.

Hanging: concealed fixings supplied and rated for the finished weight, with fixing centres provided ahead of delivery.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

The urn finials and the crest project furthest on this piece and the flower swags hang clear of the frame, so all three are packed individually before anything general goes on.

Each finial is capped, the crest is given a moulded cover, and the swags are supported from underneath along their curve with shaped foam so the blooms carry no load.

The bevelled oval plate is faced with film and backed with a board cut to the ellipse, with particular care at the bevel where the glass is thinnest.

The mirror then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate, carried on edge and marked for orientation. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery across India is included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no surcharge for a smaller town.

Production begins once your size, plate and finish are confirmed in writing. We give you a realistic production window at that stage and updates as the piece moves through carving, gilding, glazing and crating.

The shipment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is ours to honour.

Tell us about any narrow stair, small lift or restricted doorway at the time of order and we plan the crate size and route around it before the mirror leaves the workshop.

The solid teak frame and its joinery carry a 20-year Brown Rabbit warranty - the outer rectangular frame, the inner oval frame, the corner blocks and the joints holding the swags, finials and crest.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the mirror for as long as you own it, resting on teak's natural termite resistance and confirmed in writing.

The gilding is hand-laid and hand-burnished, so the twist catches light unevenly along its length by design - which is what makes a carved ribbon look like ribbon rather than like a rope of gold.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order, so the cover is settled before production begins.
