A carved teak mirror with an integrated clock, urn finials, griffin corners and a base shelf, gilded over pale green and made to order by Brown Rabbit.

The dial is a working clock, not an ornament, and that changes how the piece should be placed. It wants to hang where the room actually looks - facing the seating, or on the wall you pass on the way in and out - and at a height where the dial is comfortably within view without craning.

The base shelf earns its keep too. It gives you somewhere for a small pair of candlesticks, a card tray or a bowl for keys, and it visually seats the mirror on the wall rather than leaving it floating.

The colour behind the gold can be changed - pale green as shown, or a soft blue, stone, cream or ivory - and the dial can be made in white enamel style as photographed or in another face to suit the room. Custom sizes are made to order with final measurements confirmed in writing.

The dial on a mirror like this has one job that ordinary clocks do not: it has to be readable from wherever the room's furniture faces, without becoming so large that it swallows the crest.

So the dial size is worked backwards from the room. We ask how far the main seating sits from the wall, and the numerals are sized to be legible at that distance - a larger dial for a long drawing room, a smaller one for a hall where you read it from a few steps away. The carving of the crest is then drawn around the dial that results, rather than the dial being squeezed into a crest already designed.

The second decision is depth. The dial is set slightly forward of the face of the carving behind it, so the shell and palm fronds around it never throw a shadow across the hands. A dial recessed even a little into a deeply carved crest will lose its hands in shade at exactly the hour of the afternoon when you most want to read it.

Small choices. They are the difference between a clock that gets used and one that becomes a decoration.

Material: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Structure: shaped frame with an arched plate opening; carved crest housing the clock dial; urns on plinths flanking the crest; griffin carvings at the lower corners; moulded shelf across the base.

Clock: dial set proud of the crest carving so the hands stay clear of shadow; dial size drawn to your viewing distance; movement accessible from the rear.

Finish: gilding over a pale green ground as photographed. Blue, stone, cream, ivory, full gold, silver or natural teak also available.

Plate: shaped mirror glass, plain or bevelled, set into a rebate from the back.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images here are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

This piece has more projecting elements than most - two urns, two griffins, a crest and a shelf - and each is packed on its own terms.

The urns and griffins are wrapped and capped individually before any general packing begins. The base shelf, which sticks out furthest at the bottom, is edge-protected along its whole length.

The dial is covered with a soft facing and then a rigid cap held clear of the glass and hands, so nothing can press on the face. The mirror plate is filmed and backed with a board cut to the shaped opening.

The whole piece then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate, marked for orientation and carried on edge. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery across India is included in the price - no freight charge, no distance loading, no surcharge for a smaller town.

Production begins once your size, dial specification, plate and finish colour are confirmed in writing. We give you a realistic production window at that stage and updates as the piece moves through carving, finishing, gilding, glazing and crating.

The shipment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is ours to honour.

Tell us about any tight stair, small lift or narrow doorway when you order and we plan the crate size and the route accordingly before the piece leaves the workshop.

Brown Rabbit warrants the solid teak frame and its joinery for 20 years - the shaped frame, the crest and its dial housing, the plinths and urns, the griffin corners and the base shelf.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the piece for as long as you own it, resting on teak's natural termite resistance and confirmed in writing.

The clock movement is accessible from the rear so it can be serviced or replaced in the ordinary course of a long life, without disturbing the carving or the finish around it.

The gilding is laid and burnished by hand over the coloured ground, so the highlights vary along the mouldings. Written warranty terms are issued with your order, so the cover is settled before we begin.
