A carved teak mirror in an antiqued bronze finish, with deep scrollwork, a plume crest and shaped feet, hand-made to order by Brown Rabbit.

The depth of carving is what carries a dark finish. A shallow relief in bronze would read as a flat brown frame; cut this deep, the recesses go dark and the raised edges catch the light, so the piece has contrast built into its shape rather than into its colour.

That makes it a good choice for a room with directional light - a lamp to one side, a window at an angle - where the frame will pick up a strong highlight along one edge.

The bronze can be taken warmer, toward a red-brown, or cooler, toward a gunmetal, and the same frame is available in gold, silver, ivory, champagne or natural teak. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

An antiqued bronze finish is made by putting a colour on and then taking most of it off again.

The metallic layer goes on first over the whole carved surface. Then a dark glaze is brushed over it and worked into every recess and undercut with a stiff brush, so it collects in the deep parts of the carving. Before it sets, the raised work is wiped back with a cloth - the leaf edges, the crests of the scrolls, the outer curve of the plume - until the metal shows through again.

How hard that wiping is done decides the whole character of the piece. Wipe lightly and the frame stays dark and quiet; wipe hard and it becomes bright and lively. Our artisans work to a sample panel agreed with you before touching the mirror itself, because there is no going back to a lighter result once the glaze has cured.

The finish is then sealed. What you get is a frame that looks like cast bronze that has been handled for a century, on a piece of timber that will still be flat in a century.

Material: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Structure: rectangular inner frame with a carved slip and plate rebate; deeply undercut C-scroll and leaf surround; plume crest and scrolled base with shaped feet joined to the frame.

Finish: antiqued bronze - metallic layer, dark glaze worked into the recesses, raised work wiped back and sealed. Warmth adjustable; gold, silver, ivory, champagne and natural teak also available.

Plate: rectangular mirror glass, plain or bevelled, set into a rebate from the back.

Hanging: concealed fixings supplied and rated for the finished weight, with fixing centres provided ahead of delivery.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

Deeply undercut carving has fragile outer tips and a dark finish shows a scuff, so this piece is packed for both.

A clean, soft, non-transferring facing goes over the finished surface first. Foam is then worked into the hollows behind the scrolls so the carving is supported from within rather than pressed from outside, and the plume crest and the outermost scroll tips are capped individually.

The plate is filmed and backed with a cut board so the glass carries no load, and the shaped feet at the base are edge-protected.

The mirror then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate, carried on edge and marked for orientation. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Delivery anywhere in India is free and included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no small-town surcharge.

Production begins once your size, plate and the depth of the bronze finish are confirmed in writing, with a sample panel agreed first. You get a realistic production window then and updates as the piece moves through carving, finishing, glazing and crating.

The shipment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is ours to honour.

Tell us about any narrow stair, small lift or tight doorway when you order and we plan the crate and route around it before the piece leaves the workshop.

Brown Rabbit warrants the solid teak frame and its joinery for 20 years - the inner frame, the joints holding the carved surround, and the crest, base and foot attachments.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the mirror for as long as you own it, backed by teak's natural termite resistance and set down in writing.

The bronze is a hand-applied and hand-wiped finish, sealed after glazing, so every frame carries its own pattern of highlight and shadow. That individuality is the point of an antiqued finish.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order so the cover is settled before we begin.

A metallic layer goes on first, then a dark glaze is worked into every recess, and the raised carving is wiped back before the glaze sets so the metal shows through again. It is then sealed.

Yes. How hard the raised work is wiped back decides the character - lighter wiping keeps the frame dark and quiet, harder wiping makes it bright and lively. We agree a sample panel with you before the mirror itself is finished.

The carving is cut deep, so the frame reads as light and shadow rather than as a solid dark mass. In a room with directional light it picks up a strong highlight along one edge, which keeps it lively.

Yes. Gold, silver, ivory, champagne and natural teak are all available on this frame.

Plain or bevelled, as you prefer. Against a dark frame a bevel gives a bright line that separates the glass from the carving.

Solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans, with a 20-year warranty on the frame and joinery and a lifetime warranty against termite damage.

Concealed fixings are supplied and rated for the finished weight, and we send the fixing centres in advance so your wall can be prepared before delivery.
