A rose gold and velvet high back chair in carved teak, with a buttoned back, shell crest and scrolled arms, made to order by Brown Rabbit.

This is a chair that reads well in a bedroom or a dressing room as much as a drawing room - the tall back gives it presence, but the tone is soft rather than formal.

Velvet and metal leaf both change with the light, and they change at different rates, which is what gives the piece its depth through the day. Tell us how the room is lit and we can set the frame tone warmer or cooler against the cloth you choose.

The stud line can be run in a matching or contrasting metal, and the buttoning can be replaced with a plain back if you prefer. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

The studs along the frame of this chair are set by eye, not by a jig - and there is a reason for the extra work.

A stud line follows the outline of the frame, and that outline is full of changes: it swells over the arm scrolls, tightens under the crest, straightens along the seat rail. Space the studs at a constant pitch and they crowd on the tight curves and stretch on the straights, which reads as carelessness even to someone who could not say why.

So our upholsterers set the pitch slightly closer where the curve is tightest and slightly wider on the straight runs, so the studs appear evenly spaced to the eye as it travels around the chair. Each is then set to the same depth, because a stud driven a fraction proud catches light differently and shows as a bright spot in the line.

The line is also planned to start and end at a meeting point - under an arm scroll, where the eye does not look for a beginning. A stud line that visibly starts somewhere always looks as though it ran out.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Structure: tall shaped back frame with carved shell crest; arms rolling forward into carved volutes; carved cabriole legs.

Upholstery: deep-buttoned back and sprung seat; velvet or fabric of your choosing, with pile direction agreed before cutting.

Studs: set by hand with the pitch graduated around curves so the line reads even, each driven to a consistent depth, with the run starting and ending under an arm scroll.

Finish: rose gold as photographed; gold, silver, champagne, ivory and natural teak available.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

Velvet crushes under sustained pressure and studs mark whatever they press against, so this chair is packed with an air gap over both.

The upholstery is covered with a clean breathable wrap, and the buttoned back is protected by a standoff board held clear on foam blocks at the frame edges.

The studded frame edges are given a soft channel protection that sits beside the studs rather than on them, so nothing bears down on the heads.

The shell crest and the arm volutes are capped individually, and the legs are wrapped and blocked so the chair's weight rests on its rails. Everything then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery anywhere in India is included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no small-town surcharge.

Production begins once your dimensions, fabric, pile direction, stud metal and frame finish are confirmed in writing. You get a realistic production window at that point and updates as the piece moves through frame work, carving, finishing, upholstery and crating.

The shipment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is ours to honour.

Tell us your doorway and stair dimensions when you order and we plan the crate around them before the chair leaves the workshop.

The solid teak frame and its joinery carry a 20-year Brown Rabbit warranty - the seat rails, the leg joints, the tall back frame, the arm structure and the crest fixings.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the chair for as long as you own it, resting on teak's natural termite resistance and confirmed in writing.

Buttoning can be re-tensioned, studs re-set and covers remade over the years without disturbing the carved frame. The button and stud positions are recorded so both can be reproduced exactly if the chair is recovered.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order so the cover is agreed before production begins.
