A gilded carved teak blue throne chair with crystal buttons and an embroidered seat, made to order by Brown Rabbit.

Deep colour and bright gold are a demanding combination, and the proportion between them is what makes it work. Here the gold is confined to a frame of consistent width, so it draws the outline without breaking into the colour.

The embroidered seat motif can be made as shown, replaced with a monogram, or left out entirely for a plain seat.

Any fabric can be used - and a strong colour like this suits velvet, which deepens it further, as much as it suits a flat weave. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

Crystal buttons on a strong colour do something they cannot do on a pale one, and where they are placed follows from that.

On a light fabric a crystal reads as a small bright detail among other details. On a saturated blue it reads as a point of light on a dark field, and the eye connects those points into lines - which means the buttoning grid stops being a texture and becomes a drawn pattern.

So on a chair like this our upholsterers check the grid from a distance before fixing anything, because a diamond pattern that is a fraction irregular is invisible on a pale cloth and glaringly obvious on a dark one. The buttons are positioned on the frame, checked at three metres, adjusted, and only then pulled.

They are also pulled slightly shallower here than on a pale fabric, because a crystal that sinks into a dark ground disappears entirely - on white it would still be visible as a dimple, but on deep blue the shadow and the fabric are the same colour, and the light is all you have.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans and gilded to a consistent frame width.

Structure: tall shaped back with carved shell crest; arms rolling into carved volutes; carved apron; cabriole legs.

Upholstery: deep-buttoned back with crystal buttons, the grid checked from a distance before fixing and pulled shallower than on a pale cloth so the crystal keeps its light; embroidered seat motif, replaceable with a monogram or omitted.

Finish: gold as photographed; silver, champagne and ivory available.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

Crystal buttons are hard points on a soft surface and must never be pressed in transit, so the buttoned back is packed with an air gap over its whole face.

A standoff board is held clear on foam blocks at the frame edges, and the upholstery beneath it is covered with a clean breathable wrap.

The shell crest and the arm volutes are capped individually, and the gilded frame is faced along its run before foam.

The cabriole legs are wrapped and blocked so the chair's weight rests on its seat rails. Everything then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery anywhere in India is included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no small-town surcharge.

Production begins once your dimensions, fabric, button choice, seat motif and finish are confirmed in writing. Where a monogram is being embroidered we send artwork for approval before it is worked.

The shipment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is ours to honour.

Tell us your doorway and stair dimensions when you order and we plan the crate around them before the chair leaves the workshop.

The solid teak frame and its joinery carry a 20-year Brown Rabbit warranty - the seat rails, the cabriole leg joints, the tall back frame, the arm structure and the crest and apron fixings.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the chair for as long as you own it, backed by teak's natural termite resistance and given in writing.

Buttons can be replaced individually and the buttoning re-tensioned without disturbing the gilded frame. The grid positions are recorded, which matters on a dark cloth where any irregularity would show.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order so the cover is agreed before production begins.
