A tall red velvet chair on a gilded carved teak frame, with crystal buttons and rolled arms, made to order by Brown Rabbit.

The narrow width is what makes this chair useful. A tall back usually comes with a broad seat, which limits where it can go; here the seat is kept to a single generous width, so the chair fits beside a fireplace, in a bay, at the end of a bed or in a corner where a wider chair would not.

The loose cushion can be made firmer or softer to suit whether the chair is for occasional or daily use - firmer for a chair people get in and out of often, softer for one they settle into.

Velvet as photographed or any fabric, and the frame in gold, silver, champagne or ivory. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

Crystal buttons behave differently from covered ones, and the difference decides how deep they are pulled.

A covered button is the same colour as the cloth around it, so it reads as a dimple - the eye sees the shadow it makes, not the button itself. Pull it deeper and the shadow deepens; the effect is gradual.

A crystal button is a bright point on a dark ground, and it reads as a highlight rather than a shadow. Pulled too deep it sinks below the surrounding surface and the highlight disappears into its own hollow; pulled too shallow it sits on the surface and looks stuck on.

So our upholsterers pull crystal buttons to a shallower depth than covered ones - just far enough for the velvet to fold around them and hold them, but not so far that the crystal loses its light. Each is checked from the front at standing distance rather than from above at the bench, because that is the only angle from which the effect can actually be judged.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans and gilded.

Structure: tall narrow back frame with pierced carved crest; rolled arms; carved apron; carved cabriole legs.

Upholstery: deep-buttoned back with crystal buttons pulled to a shallower depth than covered buttons so the crystal keeps its light; loose seat cushion over a sprung platform; velvet or fabric of your choosing.

Comfort: cushion firmness set to occasional or daily use as you prefer.

Finish: gold as photographed; silver, champagne and ivory available.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

Crystal buttons are hard points on a soft surface, which makes them the one thing that must never be pressed during transit - a crystal driven into velvet under load leaves a ring that takes a long time to lift.

So the buttoned back is covered with a clean breathable wrap and then protected by a standoff board held clear on foam blocks at the frame edges, leaving an air gap over the whole buttoned face.

The pierced crest is packed with foam worked into its openwork and capped, the arm rolls are wrapped along their curve, and the cabriole legs are blocked so the chair's weight rests on its rails.

The cushion travels wrapped separately. Everything goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery anywhere in India is included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no small-town surcharge.

Production begins once your dimensions, fabric, button choice and finish are confirmed in writing. You get a realistic production window at that point and updates as the piece moves through frame work, carving, gilding, upholstery and crating.

The shipment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is ours to honour.

Tell us your doorway and stair dimensions when you order and we plan the crate around them before the chair leaves the workshop.

The solid teak frame and its joinery carry a 20-year Brown Rabbit warranty - the seat rails, the cabriole leg joints, the tall back frame, the arm structure and the crest fixings.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the chair for as long as you own it, resting on teak's natural termite resistance and confirmed in writing.

Buttons can be replaced individually, buttoning re-tensioned and covers remade over the years without disturbing the gilded frame. Button positions are recorded so the grid can be reproduced exactly.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order so the cover is agreed before production begins.

Yes, in the seat fabric or a contrasting one. Covered buttons give a quieter, more shadowed effect than crystal.

That is what the design is for. The back is tall but the seat is kept to a single generous width, so it fits beside a fireplace, in a bay, at the end of a bed or in a corner.

Yes, any velvet or fabric. Red with gold is the traditional pairing and the most effective, because the velvet absorbs light while the gold returns it.
