A carved teak brocade chair with a fan back, gold rosettes and a ruched seat edge, made to order by Brown Rabbit.

The round seat front is worth noting. It has no corners, which means nothing to catch a passing leg and nothing to wear at a point - a round-fronted seat ages more evenly than a square one and is more comfortable at the back of the knee.

The rosettes running down each side of the back are individually carved and set into the frame, and the number of them changes with the height of the chair, so a taller version gets more rather than larger ones.

Any brocade or fabric can be used, and the frame can be finished in ivory and gold as shown or in other combinations. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

The rosettes down the sides of this chair are set at a constant spacing, and that spacing is decided by the height of the chair rather than being fixed.

When a design like this is made taller, there are two options: make the rosettes bigger, or use more of them. Enlarging them looks wrong immediately - the rosette is a flower, and a flower has a natural size relative to the frame it sits on. Adding more keeps that relationship and simply extends the rhythm.

So our artisans keep the rosette size constant across every version of this chair and change the count. A short version might carry five a side, a tall one seven, and the spacing between them is then adjusted very slightly so the run divides evenly between the seat rail and the crest - starting and ending with a whole rosette, never a partial one.

It is the same rule that governs balusters on a staircase or spindles in a railing: keep the element, change the count, and divide the run so both ends are whole.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Structure: fan-shaped back widening toward the crest with forward-curving top corners; individually carved rosettes let into each side, constant in size with the count varying by chair height and the run divided to start and end whole; round-fronted seat; carved apron; turned tapered legs.

Upholstery: brocade or fabric of your choosing; ruched seat edge.

Finish: ivory with gold as photographed; other combinations available.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

The rosettes stand proud along both sides of the back, which makes them the first thing a crate meets on either flank.

Each is capped individually with shaped foam, and the frame between them is faced along its curve.

The ruched seat edge is protected with a collar held clear on foam blocks so nothing compresses the gathers, and the brocade is covered with a clean breathable wrap laid smooth to avoid creasing the pattern.

The turned legs are wrapped and blocked so the chair's weight rests on its seat rails. Everything then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery anywhere in India is included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no small-town surcharge.

Production begins once your dimensions, fabric and finish are confirmed in writing. If you are supplying your own brocade, tell us the repeat size and we will confirm the quantity needed for a centred layout before you buy.

The shipment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is our responsibility to honour.

Tell us your doorway and stair dimensions when you order and we plan the crate around them before the chair leaves the workshop.

The solid teak frame and its joinery carry a 20-year Brown Rabbit warranty - the seat rails, the leg joints, the fan back frame, the rosette seatings and the apron fixings.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the chair for as long as you own it, backed by teak's natural termite resistance and given in writing.

Because the rosettes are individually let into the frame rather than carved from it, any one of them can be replaced if damaged without recarving the whole side.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order so the cover is agreed before production begins.
