A traditional dining table set in solid teak, made to order by master Indian artisans and finished in taupe with gold-picked carving. Twin fluted pedestals carry a glass-protected top; the chairs have buttoned backs and fluted seat fronts.

Taupe is an underused colour for carved furniture and a practical one - warmer than grey, quieter than ivory, and it does not show the everyday marks a dining room produces the way a pale finish does.

Twin pedestals leave both long sides and both ends of the table clear of legs, so every seat is a good one and an extra chair can be brought in wherever it is wanted.

Handcrafted Indian luxury, built to your dimensions, with a 20-year warranty on frames and joinery, lifetime termite cover, free PAN-India delivery and guaranteed dent-free arrival.

Picking out the recesses of fluting in a darker colour looks like a masking job. It is not, and it cannot be, because tape on a curved fluted drum leaves a wavering edge every time and one lifted corner ruins a whole column.

The line is cut, not masked. When the flutes are worked, a fine fillet is left standing at the top and bottom of each reed - a raised bead only a fraction of a millimetre proud, running the full length of the flute on both sides. That fillet is the boundary.

The darker colour goes on first, over the whole drum, and cures. The lighter taupe is then applied with a pad drawn along the reeds, so it takes the raised faces and stops dead at the fillet on either side. The fillet physically holds the pad off the recess. The result is a crisp line the full length of every flute, identical on all of them, because it was carved rather than drawn.

It also means the line cannot drift over time. A masked edge is only as good as the tape that day; a carved fillet is part of the timber, so if the piece is ever re-finished decades from now, the same boundary is still there for whoever does the work.

Set: one dining table with side chairs and carvers, made together as one commission.

Frames: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Top: protective glass over the timber top, with a carved frieze and a scalloped lower edge.

Base: twin fluted pedestal drums on moulded plinths, with the flute recesses picked out darker.

Two-tone flutes: a raised fillet is carved along both sides of every flute to hold the pad off the recess, so the colour boundary is cut into the timber rather than masked.

Chairs: buttoned upholstered backs inside carved frames, with fluted seat fronts.

Carvers: matching backs with scrolled open arms.

Upholstery: grey woven cloth as photographed; any fabric or leather available.

Finish: hand-applied taupe with gold-picked carving; plain pedestals and other colour combinations available.

Dimensions: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Fluted surfaces have sharp arrises between the reeds, and those arrises bruise more easily than any flat face. Each pedestal drum is padded around its full circumference along its whole height rather than only at the ends.

The chairs' fluted seat fronts get the same treatment, padded along their full width. Chairs are crated individually and never nested, with buttoned backs covered in soft non-abrasive sheeting laid on loosely so no button is pressed in.

The table's glass travels in its own crate, edge-protected all round. The top is face-protected with a rigid board and the scalloped lower edge of the frieze padded continuously, since a scalloped edge presents a projection at every curve.

Unpack the chairs first, then the base, then the top, and set the glass last with two people. Nothing needs dismantling and no fixing has to be undone.

Delivery is free anywhere in India for the whole set, and every piece is guaranteed to arrive dent-free. If anything is wrong when the crates are opened, correcting it is our cost, and we commit to that before you order.

Production begins once the table size, chair count, upholstery and the finish combination are confirmed in writing. Table and chairs are made together and dispatched together so the taupe and gold match exactly.

Dispatch waits for the hand-applied finish to cure fully. We share the schedule at confirmation, update you as each stage completes, and send tracking as soon as the crates leave us.

Open every crate with the delivery team present, including the glass, and check each piece. Send us your doorway, lift and stair measurements at the order stage and we set the top size to a dimension that will reach the room.

Every frame in the set carries a 20-year warranty on solid teak frame and joinery - the table, both fluted pedestals and each chair and carver on identical terms.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs on every piece, resting on teak's own oils rather than on an applied treatment, and issued in writing with the set.

Both documents are tied to your order and handed over on delivery, so the record stays with you. If a covered fault appears on one piece, send photographs and we repair or replace that piece alone.

Upholstery, glass and hand-applied finishes are handled separately from the structural cover. Because the two-tone boundary on the flutes is carved rather than masked, a re-finish decades from now follows the same line the original did, and we keep your colour specification on file.
