A gilded and white carved teak throne chair with a crown crest, made to order by Brown Rabbit.

A single throne chair is a different proposition from a pair. It becomes a focal point rather than a symmetry, which means it wants a wall or a corner of its own where it can be approached from the front.

The crown can be carved as shown, replaced with a cartouche, or made to carry an initial or a family device - it is a small enough element to personalise without altering the rest of the design.

White upholstery keeps the chair light despite its height; any fabric or hide can be used instead. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

The crown at the top of this chair is carved separately and set on, and where it is set decides whether the whole chair looks right.

A crest ornament sitting dead on the centre line at the exact top of the back looks correct on the bench and slightly wrong on the chair, because a tall back is almost always seen from slightly below and the crown then appears to lean away from the viewer.

So our artisans pitch the crown forward by a small angle and set it a fraction lower than the true apex, which brings it upright to the eye of someone standing in front of the chair. The angle depends on the height of the back - taller chairs need more of it.

The same reasoning governs the gilding. The crown is burnished brightest on its front-facing surfaces and left quieter on top, because the top is the one part nobody will ever see from the floor. Effort is spent where it will be looked at, which is the whole discipline of finishing a tall piece.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans and gilded.

Structure: tapering tall back with scrolled crest; carved crown set separately, pitched forward and set slightly below the true apex to read upright from standing height; arms rolling into carved terminals; shell-centred apron; cabriole legs.

Upholstery: deep-buttoned back and sprung seat in white as photographed, or the fabric or hide of your choosing.

Personalisation: the crown can be replaced with a cartouche or carved to carry an initial or family device.

Finish: gold as photographed; silver, champagne, ivory and natural teak available.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

The crown is the highest and most delicate point of the chair, so it is packed first and given the most clearance.

It is wrapped and then capped with a moulded cover that stands proud of the carving, so any contact with the crate meets the cap rather than the crown itself.

The white upholstery is covered with a clean breathable wrap that will not transfer, and the buttoned back is given a standoff board on foam blocks.

The arm terminals are capped individually and the cabriole legs wrapped and blocked so the chair's weight rests on its seat rails. Everything then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate, marked for orientation. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Delivery anywhere in India is free and included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no small-town surcharge.

Production begins once your dimensions, upholstery, crown treatment and finish are confirmed in writing. You get a realistic production window at that point and updates as the piece moves through frame work, carving, gilding, upholstery and crating.

The shipment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is ours to honour.

Tell us your doorway and stair dimensions when you order. The crown makes this chair taller than it measures at the back, and we crate to the crown.

The solid teak frame and its joinery carry a 20-year Brown Rabbit warranty - the seat rails, the leg joints, the tall back frame, the arm structure and the crest and crown fixings.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the chair for as long as you own it, resting on teak's natural termite resistance and confirmed in writing.

Buttoning can be re-tensioned and covers remade over the years without disturbing the gilded frame, and the button positions are recorded so the grid can be reproduced exactly.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order so the cover is agreed before production begins.
