Silver Showcase in Ivory Teak with Pierced Filigree Base Band

The filigree band on this cabinet is finished before it ever touches the cabinet, and that order of work is not negotiable.

Pierced work only reads as pierced if the ground behind it stays clean. Every opening in that band is meant to show ivory - crisp ivory, the same tone as the case around it. The moment silver finds its way into one of those openings, the piercing stops looking like lace over a pale ground and starts looking like a smudge.

If the band were applied first and finished in place, that is exactly what would happen. Silver would carry through the openings onto the ground behind, and no amount of care at the edge would prevent it, because the openings are the places a brush cannot see into.

So the band is carved, pierced, cleaned up and silvered as a separate component on the bench. The case is finished in ivory separately, complete and even, right through the area the band will cover. Only then are the two brought together and the band fixed down.

The band can also be removed for future service without disturbing the ivory beneath it.

Columns: four slender hand-turned columns at the front corners, silvered, running full height.

Top: silvered gallery running around the upper edge.

Finish: ivory ground with hand-applied silver on carving, gallery, columns and filigree.

Pierced silvered work and slender turned columns are the fragile elements here, and both are packed as individual items rather than as part of the cabinet.

Foam is pressed into every opening in the filigree band so the piercing is braced from behind, then the band is boxed on its own. Each column is sleeved in foam along its whole length and boxed separately, because a slender turned member breaks at its thinnest point if it is left to take a knock.

The bowed doors are unhung and laid into foam beds cut to their own curve. Glass is taped across the face and packed apart from the frames, with the shaped end panes bedded in foam matched to their radius.

Acid-free tissue goes directly against the ivory finish on the case, then foam sheet, then bubble wrap.

All of it ships in hardwood crates with corner protection and orientation marking. Multi-layer protective packaging is included on every order at no extra cost.

On site, our team sets and levels the cabinet first, then fits the columns, hangs the bowed doors, installs the shaped end panes and fits the glass shelves last, so no glass carries load until the piece is in its final position.

Glass, shaped end panes, shelves and hardware are covered against manufacturing defect. The curved glass is formed to your own cabinet and the radius stays on our records, so a replacement fits exactly.
