A carved throne chair in pale solid teak with red upholstery and a key-fret apron band. It is a formal seat that stays relatively quiet - the ornament is carved rather than gilded, which suits a study, a reception area, a prayer room or a hall where a gold finish would sit awkwardly.

Master Indian artisans carve every element by hand from seasoned solid teak. The crest scrolls, the key fret and the apron foliage are all cut from solid stock, and the arm scrolls are worked in the round.

It is made to order. Choose the upholstery, the finish tone, the seat width and the back height, and add gilded or coloured highlights if you want them. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production. It comes with a 20-year warranty on the teak frame and joinery, a lifetime warranty against termite damage, free PAN-India delivery with guaranteed dent-free arrival, and multi-layer protective packaging.

The band of key fret under the seat is, technically, the easiest carving on this chair. It is also the one most likely to go wrong, because geometry does not forgive and foliage does.

A carved leaf has no correct answer. If a stem curves a little further than the drawing, nothing is broken - the eye accepts it as the carver's hand. That tolerance is what makes foliage forgiving and why apprentices start there.

Key fret has none of it. Every line is straight, every turn is a right angle, every gap is meant to be identical, and the whole band is repeated dozens of times in a row. An error of half a millimetre in one line is measurable against its neighbour, and once the eye finds one wrong corner it starts checking every other one.

So this band is not drawn freehand at all. The lines are gauged parallel from the edge of the rail, the divisions are stepped off with dividers so they come out whole, the corners are squared, and only then does a V-tool follow the lines. The carving takes an afternoon; the setting out takes nearly as long.

It is the part of the chair a carver is quietly judged on, precisely because there is nowhere to hide in it.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans, with traditional joinery at every junction.

Crest: carved scrolls around a plain round medallion.

Back: upholstered panel inside a moulded carved frame.

Arms: rolled upholstered arms on carved scroll supports.

Seat: upholstered seat over a padded frame.

Apron: carved key-fret band above a shaped apron of scrolling foliage, across the front and both sides.

Legs: carved cabriole legs finishing in scroll feet.

Upholstery: red as photographed. Any fabric or leather can be used instead, including your own material.

Finish: pale natural teak as photographed. Any polish tone can be matched, and gilded or coloured highlights can be added.

Size: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are of the actual product, not renders.

Pale teak shows marks that a dark polish would hide, so nothing abrasive is allowed near this chair at any point in packing.

A soft non-abrasive layer goes over every surface first, laid smoothly rather than folded. The crest scrolls, the arm scrolls and the carved scroll feet each get shaped foam collars so contact lands on foam rather than on carving. The key-fret band and the apron below it are protected with a continuous foam strip along the front and both sides, which matters here because a repeating geometric band shows a single crushed corner immediately.

Corrugated panels then build a rigid shell around the chair, with the base blocked and braced so the weight rests on the seat frame rather than the crest, and the outer carton is edge-reinforced so stacked weight in transit is carried by the packaging. The upholstery travels under a breathable cover. Everything unwraps by hand, no blades needed.

Free PAN-India delivery is included in the price - no zone rates, no distance surcharge, no freight line at checkout. The chair costs the same delivered to Tiruppur as to Bhilai.

Dent-free arrival is guaranteed. It leaves in multi-layer protective packaging, travels with handlers briefed on pale-wood and fine carved detail, and is checked at every transfer point. If anything is not right when you open it, tell us and we make it right - the guarantee sits with us, not with the transporter.

Because the chair is carved to order, production begins once your upholstery, finish and measurements are confirmed in writing. You get a timeline at that point, updates as the chair moves through carving, finishing and upholstery, and a dispatch note with an expected delivery window so you can plan for the day it arrives.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty - the seat frame, the back frame and crest, the arm supports, the apron rails and the carved legs. If a joint opens or a member fails within those twenty years, we repair or replace it.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs alongside it and never expires. Teak's natural oils are why termites avoid it, and our seasoning and finishing routine is built around preserving them, so the timber is guaranteed for as long as the chair is yours.

On a pale, largely unfinished piece the timber itself is the product, which makes a long warranty on the wood the most meaningful thing we can offer. It holds because the chair is made from start to finish in our own workshop by the master Indian artisans who build every piece we sell, from timber we season ourselves.
