A red velvet throne chair in carved solid teak with a gold finish and lion-head arms. The plain untufted upholstery is what sets it apart from most chairs in this style - it reads as calmer and cleaner from a distance, and it lets the gilded carving around it stand out rather than compete.

Master Indian artisans carve and turn every element by hand from seasoned solid teak. The lion heads are worked in the round, the columns are turned and then carved, and the crest shield, the carved back border and the apron medallion are cut from solid stock.

It is made to order. Choose the velvet, the gold or silver tone, the seat width and the back height, and choose whether the upholstery is plain or buttoned. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production. It comes with a 20-year warranty on the teak frame and joinery, a lifetime warranty against termite damage, free PAN-India delivery with guaranteed dent-free arrival, and multi-layer protective packaging.

A plain upholstered back is harder than a buttoned one, and this chair is a good demonstration of why.

Buttons are forgiving. Every button pulls surplus material into a hollow, so a cover that is slightly too big simply disappears into the pattern. On a plain tight back there is nowhere for surplus to go. Worse, this back is arched at the top, and a flat piece of cloth pulled over a curve always has more material at the outside of the curve than it needs - which wants to gather into soft ripples right where the eye rests.

The solution is to remove that surplus rather than to stretch it away. Small wedges are cut out of the cover at the tacking edge, spaced around the curve, and the cut edges pulled together as the cover is fixed down. Each wedge takes out a precise amount of fullness, so the face of the velvet comes up flat and smooth with no tension marks radiating from the corners.

All of that happens under the carved gilded border, where nothing is visible afterwards. What you see is a plain arched panel that looks effortless - and that could not have been achieved by pulling harder.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved and hand-turned by master Indian artisans, with traditional joinery at every junction.

Back: arched plain upholstered panel inside a carved gilded border.

Columns: turned corner columns with pointed finials.

Crest: carved foliage around a central shield.

Arms: carved lion heads at both arm fronts over panelled supports.

Seat: plain upholstered seat over a sprung and padded frame, above a carved gilded rail.

Apron: carved around a central medallion.

Legs: carved front legs finishing in full paw feet.

Upholstery: red velvet, plain, as photographed. Any velvet or fabric can be used instead, plain or buttoned, including your own material.

Finish: hand-applied gold over the carving. Silver, champagne, antiqued tones or plain polished teak are also available.

Size: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are of the actual product, not renders.

Plain velvet marks more readily than buttoned velvet, because there is no texture to disguise a crease - so the upholstery here is covered before anything rigid comes near it.

A smooth unfolded soft layer goes over the back panel and the seat first, laid flat rather than wrapped, so no fold can press into the pile during transit. The gilded surfaces get the same non-abrasive treatment.

Then the projecting carving is collared: the lion heads get deep foam collars standing proud of the muzzles, the pointed finials get collars extending above their tips, and foam sleeves run down both columns. The apron and paw feet are collared individually. Corrugated panels build a rigid shell around the chair, with the base blocked and braced so the weight rests on the seat frame rather than the back, and the outer carton is edge-reinforced. Everything unwraps by hand, no blades needed.

Free PAN-India delivery is included - no zone rates, no distance surcharge, no freight line at checkout. The chair costs the same delivered to Cuttack as to Chandigarh.

Dent-free arrival is guaranteed. It leaves in multi-layer protective packaging, travels with handlers briefed on gilded carving and plain upholstery, and is checked at every transfer point. If anything is not right when you open it, tell us and we make it right - the guarantee sits with us and not with the transporter.

Because the chair is made to order, production begins once your velvet, finish and measurements are confirmed in writing. You get a timeline at that point, updates as the chair moves through carving, turning, gilding and upholstery, and a dispatch note with an expected delivery window so you can plan for the day.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty - the seat frame, the arched back frame, the turned columns, the arm supports under the lion heads and the carved legs. If a joint opens or a member fails within those twenty years, we repair or replace it.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs alongside it and never expires. Teak's natural oils are why termites leave it alone, and our seasoning and finishing routine is built around preserving them, so the timber is guaranteed for as long as the chair is yours.

These terms are possible because the chair is built from start to finish in our own workshop by the master Indian artisans who make every piece we sell, from timber we season ourselves - nothing about it passes through hands we do not know. Registration is automatic with your order; your order number is all a claim ever needs.
