A carved side table in solid teak, hand-carved by master Indian artisans in a pearl finish and made entirely to your measurements.

It is a small table that does not behave like one. The openwork legs give it far more presence than its footprint suggests, which makes it useful where a plain piece would disappear - beside a large armchair, at the end of a long sofa, in a corner that needs an object rather than storage.

Two serpentine drawers still make it practical. Nothing about the carving reduces what it holds.

Because everything is made to order, the height can be matched to the arm of the chair or the mattress it stands beside.

Order singly or as a matched pair. Photographs on this page show the actual piece our artisans produced, not a computer render.

Ornament does not scale. That is the problem with a small carved table, and it is the reason most of them are disappointing.

If you take a scroll designed for a large cabinet and reduce it by half, everything reduces - including the depth of the cuts and the width of the shadows they throw. The design is still there but the eye can no longer read it, because relief carving is legible through shadow, and shadow at half scale is not half as visible. It is barely visible at all.

So carving for a small piece is redrawn rather than shrunk. Our carvers reduce the number of elements instead of the size of each one - fewer scrolls, fewer leaves, but each cut kept close to full depth relative to the timber it sits in. The result is a piece with less ornament but ornament you can actually see.

The piercing helps for the same reason. An opening cut right through gives a hard black shape rather than a soft shadow, and a hard shape stays legible at any size. That is why the legs on this table are openwork rather than carved in relief - at this scale, relief alone would not hold.

The highlight finishing is the third part of the answer. Picking the raised edges out a shade brighter adds the contrast that small-scale shadow cannot supply on its own.

Material: Solid teak throughout - case, both drawer boxes and serpentine fronts, top, pierced legs and apron. No veneer over engineered board.

Construction: Corner supports pierced through into scrollwork with the grain planned along the load path, pierced carved apron with foliate drop, serpentine drawer fronts shaped from solid stock, carved gilt bead borders and floral sprays, shaped moulded top.

Storage: Two drawers. Counts, depths and internal fittings are configurable.

Finish: Pearl with carving picked out slightly brighter, as photographed. Any tone, sheen or gilding level can be specified.

Dimensions: Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Available: Singly or as a matched pair.

Made: Handcrafted Indian luxury, produced to order by master Indian artisans.

Openwork cannot take a load across it, and on this table there is openwork at all four corners and along the base. Foam is cut to bridge over every pierced section and bear only on the solid case between them, so nothing presses into a scroll.

Each pierced leg is additionally sleeved along its length with a rigid guard over the scrolled foot. The scrolls curl outward beyond the footprint of the case, which puts them first in line for a doorframe or a trolley edge.

The case is wrapped in a soft non-abrasive layer laid straight onto the pearl finish, chosen so it cannot burnish a soft sheen, and the serpentine drawer fronts are cushioned along their full curve.

Both drawers are removed or secured shut so nothing can run out and strike a gilt border.

The table then goes into a rigid outer carton braced internally. Ordered as a pair, each is crated separately. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery is included anywhere in India, with no distance surcharge and nothing added at the end. Metros, tier-two cities and smaller towns are served on the same terms, and a pair ships on the same free terms as a single table.

Production begins once your dimensions, drawer layout, carving density and finish are confirmed in writing. Piercing at this scale is slow, careful bench work and highlighting is applied last after the body has cured, so we give you an honest timeline and keep you updated as the piece progresses.

We dispatch through carriers experienced with carved solid wood furniture, and send tracking details as soon as it leaves us.

On arrival our team brings the table in, positions it, checks it stands true and that the drawers run cleanly, and removes all packaging. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed - if anything is not right, tell us and we will resolve it.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty - the case, both drawer boxes and their serpentine fronts, the pierced legs, the apron and the feet.

Pierced legs carrying a case is the demanding part, and it is met by planning rather than by bulk. Each support is cut from solid teak with the grain laid to run down through the standing ribs of the scrollwork, so the pattern itself forms a continuous load path from the shoulder to the foot. The openings sit between those ribs, never across them.

The serpentine drawer fronts are shaped from solid stock rather than bent and faced, so nothing can lift along the curve.

The teak carries a lifetime warranty against termite damage for as long as you own the piece, from the oils in the timber rather than the finish over them.

If anything covered needs attention, send us your order details and photographs and our artisans will handle the repair or replacement.

Everything you need to know about this product.

Yes. Each leg is cut from solid teak with the grain running down through the standing ribs of the scrollwork, so the pattern forms a continuous load path from shoulder to foot. The openings sit between those ribs, never across them, and the joinery carries a 20-year warranty.

Because ornament does not scale. Shrinking a large design would shrink its shadows below the point where the eye can read them, so carving for a small piece is redrawn with fewer elements kept at close to full depth - fewer scrolls, but scrolls you can actually see.

Yes, within reason - and we will tell you honestly where more detail would start to read as texture rather than as carving at this size. Our carvers will draw the density you want before any timber is cut.

Anywhere a plain small table would disappear - beside a large armchair, at the end of a long sofa, or in a corner that needs an object as much as a surface. The openwork gives it presence well beyond its footprint.

Yes, shaped from solid teak rather than bent from a thin sheet, so the serpentine curve is the shape of the timber and there is nothing that can lift along it.

Whatever suits what it stands beside - send us the arm height of your chair or the mattress height of your bed. Width, depth and drawer depths are equally yours to set.

Yes. The pearl with brighter highlighting shown is one option - ivory, white, grey, gold or silver leaf on the carving, natural teak, walnut, or a custom colour you send us.

A 20-year warranty on the solid teak frame and joinery, including both drawer boxes and the pierced legs, plus a lifetime warranty against termite damage on the teak.
