A silvered carved teak high back chair with a buttoned velvet back and ruched details, made to order by Brown Rabbit.

Silver behaves differently from gold on a tall piece. It reflects the colour of the room rather than adding a colour of its own, so a silvered frame picks up whatever is around it and a tall chair recedes into the space instead of dominating it.

Which makes this a good choice where you want the height without the weight - a bedroom, a dressing room, a landing, or beside a window where the frame will pick up daylight.

Any velvet or fabric can be used, and the frame is available in silver, gold, champagne, ivory or ebonised black. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

The gathered ends on the arms of this chair are the detail that takes the longest and looks the most casual, which is the usual relationship in upholstery.

A ruched arm end is made by drawing the covering into radiating folds that all converge at the centre of the arm scroll. The folds have to be even in width all the way round, and they have to arrive at the centre without bunching - which they will do, every time, unless the fullness is calculated first.

So our upholsterers divide the circumference of the arm end into an even number of folds, mark each one on the frame, and pin every fold in place before any is fixed. Only when all of them are pinned and the spacing is confirmed by eye is anything stitched down. Working fold by fold, fixing as you go, guarantees the last few folds have to absorb all the accumulated error.

The centre is then closed with a covered button, which does the same job as the rosette on a carved scroll - it hides the one point where a radiating pattern cannot resolve itself.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans and silvered.

Structure: very tall shaped back frame with carved crest; arms rolling forward to ruched ends; carved apron; cabriole legs.

Upholstery: deep-buttoned back; radiating ruched arm ends with folds divided evenly and all pinned before any is fixed, closed with a covered button; gathered seat cushion; velvet or fabric of your choosing.

Finish: silver as photographed; gold, champagne, ivory and ebonised black available.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

Ruching is the most compressible detail in upholstery - it is entirely air and fold - so it is packed with clearance rather than padding.

Each arm end is protected by a shaped collar held off the surface on foam blocks, so nothing presses into the gathers.

The buttoned back is covered with a clean breathable wrap and given a standoff board, and the gathered seat cushion travels wrapped separately and supported flat.

The silvered frame is faced before foam, since a silvered surface shows a scuff as a bright mark. Everything then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Delivery anywhere in India is free and included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no small-town surcharge.

Production begins once your dimensions, fabric and finish are confirmed in writing. You get a realistic production window at that point and updates as the piece moves through frame work, carving, silvering, upholstery and crating.

The shipment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is ours to honour.

Tell us your doorway and stair dimensions when you order. This is one of the taller chairs we make, and the crate is measured to the crest.

The solid teak frame and its joinery carry a 20-year Brown Rabbit warranty - the seat rails, the cabriole leg joints, the tall back frame, the arm structure and the crest and apron fixings.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the chair for as long as you own it, backed by teak's natural termite resistance and given in writing.

Ruched and buttoned work can be remade over the years without disturbing the silvered frame, and both the fold divisions and the button grid are recorded so either can be reproduced exactly.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order so the cover is agreed before production begins.
