A natural-finish carved teak leather armchair with a buttoned back, scrolled arms and studded edges, made to order by Brown Rabbit.

This is the most forgiving chair in the range to live with. Natural teak can be re-polished locally rather than refinished, hide takes marks as patina rather than damage, and antiqued studs are already dulled so handling does not change them.

Which makes it a good choice for a study, a library or a room where a chair will actually be used every day rather than admired occasionally.

Hide as photographed or any fabric, and the timber can be left natural, darkened or ebonised. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

Buttoning leather is a different craft from buttoning cloth, and the difference is that hide does not gather.

Cloth can be eased into a pleat with the fingers and will take up fullness. Leather will not - it is a skin, it has no give across its width, and any attempt to gather it produces a hard crease rather than a soft fold. So on a buttoned leather back, every pleat has to be cut for rather than gathered in: the hide is marked out and slit at each button position, and the fold is formed deliberately and worked flat.

Our upholsterers also work from the centre button outward on leather, never from the edges in. Cloth can be re-tensioned after the fact; leather cannot, because the button holes are already cut. Start at the outside and any accumulated error is trapped in the middle of the panel with nowhere to go.

The hide is also chosen with the buttoning in mind - a thicker hide holds a crisper fold and a thinner one drapes more softly - so we ask what look you want before selecting the skin rather than after.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Structure: shaped back with pierced carved crest; deep scrolls carved into the arm fronts; foliate carved apron; carved legs.

Upholstery: buttoned hide with each pleat cut and formed rather than gathered, worked from the centre button outward; antiqued studs along the leather edges; sprung and webbed seat.

Hide selection: thicker hide for a crisper fold, thinner for a softer drape - chosen to the look you want before cutting.

Finish: natural polished teak as photographed; darkened or ebonised available.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

Hide marks under sustained pressure and a polished timber surface shows a scuff as a shine, so both are faced before anything else.

The leather is covered with a clean breathable wrap - never plastic against hide - and the buttoned back is given a standoff board on foam blocks so nothing presses into the buttons.

The pierced crest is packed with foam worked into its openwork and capped, the carved arm scrolls are wrapped along their curve, and the studded edges are given channel protection that sits beside the studs.

Everything then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Delivery anywhere in India is free and included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no small-town surcharge.

Production begins once your dimensions, hide, stud finish and timber finish are confirmed in writing. Hide is selected against the buttoning look you want, so that conversation happens before the skin is cut.

The shipment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is our responsibility to honour.

Tell us your doorway and stair dimensions when you order and we plan the crate around them before the chair leaves the workshop.

Brown Rabbit warrants the solid teak frame and its joinery for 20 years - the seat rails, the leg joints, the back frame, the arm structure and the crest and apron fixings.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the chair for as long as you own it, backed by teak's natural termite resistance and given in writing.

A natural polished finish can be refreshed locally rather than stripped, which is one of the practical advantages of clear-finished timber. Hide can be fed and, in time, replaced without disturbing the carving.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order so the cover is agreed before production begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

Yes. Leather has no give across its width, so every pleat is cut and formed rather than gathered, and the work runs from the centre button outward - because button holes are already cut and any accumulated error cannot be eased out afterwards.

It changes the look. A thicker hide holds a crisper fold and a thinner one drapes more softly, so we ask what effect you want before selecting the skin.

Yes, any fabric you like. The frame, carving and stud detail are unchanged.

Well, and it improves. Both hide and natural teak darken and take patina from handling, and the polish can be refreshed locally rather than stripped and redone.
