White-glove service

A black dressing table in solid teak, hand-carved, ebonised and gilded by master Indian artisans, made entirely to your measurements and supplied with a matching stool.

The ebony and gold pairing is the most direct scheme in furniture - two tones, maximum contrast, nothing in between - and it suits a room where you want one piece to hold the eye.

Storage runs to seven drawers plus two lidded deck boxes, so the top can stay clear.

The lamps are fitted to the mirror frame itself rather than to the wall, so they travel with the piece and always sit at the right height relative to the glass. They can be supplied wired to a switch, or left out.

The same design can be built in any other colour pairing - ivory and gold, white and silver, natural teak. Photographs on this page show the actual set our artisans produced, not a computer render.

The thin gold line running around every panel on this vanity is called a struck line, and it is the detail that separates furniture finished with care from furniture finished quickly.

It is not tape, and it is not a transfer. It is drawn by hand with a long-haired lining brush, loaded once and pulled in a single continuous movement along the length of a panel. The brush is held at a constant angle, moved at a constant speed, and not lifted - because every hesitation shows as a thickening, and every restart shows as a join.

Against a black ground there is nowhere for a wobble to hide. On a mid-tone or a figured timber the eye forgives a line that wanders by half a millimetre; on ebonised black it reads as a fault from across the room, because the line is the only thing on that surface for the eye to measure.

Corners are the test. A struck line has to turn a corner cleanly and meet its neighbour at the exact point where both would have crossed, without overshooting past it. Our finishers pull each side separately and stop short, then close the corners last with a smaller brush, one at a time.

On a piece with seven drawer fronts, two deck boxes and two pedestals, that is a great many lines and a great many corners - and every one of them is drawn by a person.

Material: Solid teak throughout - pedestals, all seven drawer boxes, top, deck boxes, mirror frame, feet and stool frame. No veneer over engineered board.

Construction: Hand-carved gilded corner scrolls, mirror crest, scroll feet and lamp arms; hand-struck gold lines around every panel; shaped mirror frame with waved sides.

Storage: Three drawers in each pedestal, one wide centre drawer, plus two lidded deck boxes. Counts, depths and internal fittings are configurable.

Lighting: Two lamps on gilded scroll arms mounted to the mirror frame at face height, wired to your point. Can be omitted.

Finish: Ebonised black with gold-leafed carving and struck lines, as photographed. Any colour pairing can be specified.

Dimensions: Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Made: Handcrafted Indian luxury, produced to order by master Indian artisans.

An ebonised surface shows every mark, so the wrapping here is chosen first for what it will not do. Each component is covered in a soft, lint-free layer laid on without tension - nothing that could burnish a black finish into a shine or leave a pressure mark is allowed against it.

The mirror travels crated alone, faced and backed with a rigid board across the full shaped frame, with the gilded crest and both lamp arms given individual guards. The lamps themselves are removed, packed separately and labelled with their fittings.

Both pedestals are foamed with additional thickness over the gilded corner scrolls and along every struck line edge, and the carved scroll feet at the base get rigid guards.

All seven drawers are removed or secured shut, and the deck box lids are held closed so their hinges are not stressed.

The stool is wrapped separately with its seat covered and its gilded carved legs padded one by one. Everything then goes into rigid, internally braced outer cartons. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Delivery is free anywhere in India, with no distance surcharge and nothing added at the end. Metros, tier-two cities and smaller towns are served on the same terms.

Production begins once your dimensions, drawer layout, colour pairing, gilding level, lighting and stool fabric are confirmed in writing. Ebonising is built in layers, gilding needs curing between stages, and the struck lines are drawn last - so we give you an honest timeline then and keep you updated as the set moves through carving, ebonising, gilding, lining and assembly.

We dispatch through carriers experienced with gilded, carved and mirrored furniture, and send tracking details as soon as the set leaves us.

On arrival our team positions and levels the vanity, mounts the mirror, fits the lamp arms and connects the lamps to your point, sets the deck boxes and the stool, and removes all packaging. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed - tell us if anything is not right and we will resolve it.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty - both pedestals, all seven drawer boxes, the top, the deck boxes, the carved feet, the mirror frame and its lamp arms, and the stool.

The lamp arms are worth mentioning within that. They are carved solid teak scrolls jointed into the mirror frame rather than brackets screwed onto it, so the load of each lamp is carried into the frame structure. That is what allows them to be slim and still guaranteed.

The teak carries a lifetime warranty against termite damage for as long as you own the set, and on an ebonised piece that matters more than usual - a black finish conceals the surface completely, so the protection has to come from the timber itself rather than from anything you could inspect.

If anything covered needs attention, send us your order details and photographs and the artisans who built and finished it will arrange the repair or replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

The two lamps on gilded scroll arms are part of the design as shown, mounted to the mirror frame at face height and wired to your point by our team on delivery. If you would rather not have them, we build the frame without the arms.

Light from the sides falls evenly across your face, while light from directly above casts shadows downward under the brow and jaw. Mounting them on the frame also means they always sit at the correct height relative to the glass.

Yes. Ivory and gold, white and silver, cream and champagne, natural teak or any colour pairing you send us. The carved form is unchanged and only the finish differs - we confirm it before production.

They are struck by hand with a lining brush, drawn in one continuous pull along each panel edge and closed at the corners individually. They are not tape or transfers, which is why they read cleanly against the black ground.

Seven drawers - three in each pedestal and a wide centre drawer - plus two lidded boxes on the deck for jewellery. Counts, depths and internal fittings can all be changed, and we can add a lockable drawer.

Yes. It reads as a single strong focal piece, and the gold carving and struck lines catch the light against it. If you want something lighter, the same design is available in ivory or white with the same gilding.

Any size that suits your room. Width, depth, height, knee recess, deck box size and mirror dimensions are all set by you and confirmed in writing before we cut timber. Send us your wall measurements and our team will propose balanced proportions.

A 20-year warranty on the solid teak frame and joinery, including all seven drawer boxes, the mirror frame and the carved lamp arms, plus a lifetime warranty against termite damage on the teak beneath the finish.
