A gold dressing table in solid teak, hand-carved and gilded by master Indian artisans, topped in marble and made entirely to your measurements.

It is built as an open console rather than as a storage piece, which makes it useful where a full vanity would crowd the room - a dressing corner, a wide landing, a bedroom that already has a wardrobe doing the storing.

The shaped under-shelf is the practical part. It braces the four legs against each other and gives you a second surface for a tray, a box or a stool.

The large oval mirror is fixed to the back of the top and travels with the table, so nothing needs hanging on your wall.

If you need more storage, the same design can be built with additional frieze drawers or a small side pedestal. Photographs on this page show the actual piece our artisans produced, not a computer render.

The curved shelf running between the four legs near the floor is called a stretcher, and it is one of the oldest pieces of engineering in furniture.

Four legs standing free are a weak arrangement. Each is joined only at the top, so any sideways push - someone leaning on the table, a stool knocked against it, a floor that is not quite flat - tries to fold the whole frame like a parallelogram. On a table with a stone top, that is a great deal of weight wanting to rock on four thin points.

A stretcher fixes it by tying the legs to one another near the ground, where the leverage is greatest. Once all four are connected low down, the frame becomes a box rather than four separate posts, and it stops moving entirely.

What makes this one interesting is that it does not take the shortest path. A straight cross-brace would be stronger still, but it would cut visually across the open space under the table and destroy the lightness the design is built for. So the stretcher is shaped - curving inward between the front legs, out again at the sides - which lengthens it, keeps the tie in place, and reads as a shelf rather than as a brace.

Our craftsmen cut it from solid stock with the grain running around the curve, and pierce its carved border only where the section is generous - never at the four points where it meets the legs and does its work.

Material: Solid teak throughout - frieze, drawer box, legs, stretcher shelf and mirror frame, with a natural marble top. No veneer over engineered board.

Construction: Shaped oval carcass with hand-dressed marble top, gilt carved swags and corner mounts on the frieze, carved cabriole legs with scrolled toes, shaped and pierced stretcher shelf tying all four legs, deeply carved gilded oval mirror frame with shell crest.

Storage: One shallow frieze drawer as photographed, plus the under-shelf. Additional drawers or a side pedestal can be built in.

Finish: Hand-applied gold leaf with pale blue-white frieze panels, as photographed. Any tone or leaf can be specified.

Top: Natural marble, stone type and veining chosen with you.

Dimensions: Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Made: Handcrafted Indian luxury, produced to order by master Indian artisans.

Gilded surfaces mark under pressure, so every leafed component is first covered in a soft, lint-free wrap laid on without tension, and the foam above it is shaped to bridge over carving rather than press onto it.

The mirror comes off the table and travels crated alone - faced, backed with a rigid board across the full frame, with the shell crest and the outer scrolls given their own rigid guards.

The marble top travels on edge in its own braced crate, faced on both sides and cushioned continuously around the oval, since a curved edge has no corner to brace against and chips if it is allowed to shift.

The table frame is packed with each cabriole leg sleeved individually along its sweep and a rigid guard over every scrolled toe. The stretcher shelf, which sits lowest and projects between the legs, is protected along its full curved edge.

The drawer is removed or secured shut. Everything then goes into rigid, internally braced outer cartons, and we guarantee it arrives dent-free.

Free delivery is included anywhere in India, with no distance surcharge and nothing added at the end. Metros, tier-two cities and smaller towns are served on the same terms.

Production begins once your dimensions, marble selection, drawer arrangement, gilding level and finish are confirmed in writing. Gilding needs curing time between stages and stone dressing cannot be hurried, so we give you an honest timeline then and keep you updated as the piece moves through carving, gilding, stone fitting and assembly.

We dispatch through carriers experienced with gilded, carved, mirrored and stone-topped furniture, and send tracking details as soon as it leaves us.

On arrival our team assembles the frame, levels it, sets and beds the marble top, mounts the mirror and removes every piece of packaging. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed - if anything is not right, tell us and we will resolve it.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty - the carcass, the drawer box, all four leg joints, the stretcher shelf and the mirror frame.

The stretcher is the component that earns this guarantee on an open table. By tying the four legs together near the floor it turns a frame that could otherwise rack into a rigid box, and because it is cut from solid teak with the grain running around its curve, it carries that tie in unbroken fibre. Its carved piercing is kept away from the four points where it joins the legs.

The gilded openwork mirror frame is covered on the same basis - every scroll cut from solid stock with the grain planned along the load path, so the frame holds itself as one structure.

The teak carries a lifetime warranty against termite damage for as long as you own the piece, from the oils in the timber rather than the leaf above them.

If anything covered needs attention, send us your order details and photographs and our artisans will handle the repair or replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

One shallow drawer in the frieze, plus the shaped shelf below. It is built as an open console rather than a storage piece - but we can add further frieze drawers or a small side pedestal without losing the open look.

It ties all four legs together near the floor, which is what stops an open table racking under a stone top, and it doubles as a second surface for a tray, a box or a stool. It is shaped rather than straight so it reads as a shelf, not a brace.

The stone is chosen with you - pale veined marble as photographed, a warmer cream, a stronger vein, a plain stone, or granite. Because veining varies slab to slab, we confirm the selection before cutting.

It is hand-applied leaf laid sheet by sheet over a prepared ground and burnished by hand, not sprayed metallic paint. That is why the reflection varies across the carving instead of looking uniform.

Yes. Silver or champagne leaf, ivory, white, cream, natural teak, or a custom colour you send us. The gilding can also be limited to the carving with the frieze and legs in a plain colour.

Yes, it stands on the back of the top and travels with the piece, so nothing needs hanging on your wall. We can also supply it as a separate wall-hung frame if you would rather set your own height.

Any size that suits your space. Length, depth, table height, shelf height and mirror dimensions are all set by you and confirmed in writing before we cut timber. Send us your measurements and our team will propose balanced proportions.

A 20-year warranty on the solid teak frame and joinery, including all four leg joints, the stretcher shelf and the carved mirror frame, plus a lifetime warranty against termite damage on the teak. Send your order details and photographs if anything needs attention.
