A vitrine cabinet in solid teak, hand-carved and gilded, finished dark on the outside and pale within. It is made for a drawing room or a study, where a single tall cabinet has to hold the corner of the room.

The front is divided by a carved pilaster that runs its full height, with a glazed bay on each side. The shaped end sections are glazed as well, so light enters from three directions and the objects inside are lit rather than silhouetted.

Glass shelves run through the display area on concealed supports, positioned during design around what you intend to keep in it. Below the glazing, a solid panel gives the cabinet a base and keeps the display at a height where it is comfortably seen.

Gilding is used only on carving - the pierced crest, the pilaster, the base scrollwork and the feet - so the walnut case stays quiet and the gold stays sharp.

Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

The carved pilaster down the middle of this vitrine is one piece of timber. It could easily have been three, and it would have been far simpler to make that way.

The reason it is not comes down to how pierced carving works. In pierced work, sections of the design are cut right through, so there is no solid ground behind to hide anything. On plain carving a joint can be tucked under a moulding or lost in a shadow, but on a pierced scroll every joint sits in open air with light coming through from behind it. Wherever the timber joined, the join would be visible from both sides for the life of the cabinet.

So the pilaster is worked from a single length running cornice to base. That decision reaches back to the timber yard: the board has to be long enough, straight enough and clean enough over its whole length before any carving starts, and boards are set aside for this job specifically.

Everything that follows - the crest above and the scrollwork below - is set out to meet that single member, not the other way around.

Material: solid teak in the carcass, pilaster, door frames, crest, base rail and feet.

Front: two glazed bays divided by a full-height carved and pierced pilaster worked from a single length of timber.

Ends: shaped and glazed so the display is visible from the side.

Interior: glass shelves on concealed supports against a pale ivory lined back and sides.

Carving: pierced crest breaking upward at the centre, carved pilaster, scrolled base rail and carved feet.

Finish: deep walnut tone to the outer case, ivory lining within, gilding applied by hand to carved work only.

Made to order: height, width, depth, shelf count and spacing, lining colour and gilding weight are all customisable. Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Gilded pierced carving is the most delicate thing on this cabinet, and it gets the most protection. Foam is pressed into the openings behind each pierced section so the carving is supported from within, then acid-free tissue goes directly over the gold, because gilding shows the mark of anything abrasive laid against it.

Over that comes foam sheet, then bubble wrap, with additional blocking around the crest and the carved feet where the profile projects furthest.

The glazed doors are unhung and crated flat, panes taped across the face and foam-sleeved individually. The shaped end glass is bedded in foam cut to its own profile.

Glass shelves travel in a slotted box with foam dividers, and hardware in a labelled pack of its own.

The crate is hardwood with corner protection at every arris, marked for orientation and lift points. Multi-layer protective packaging comes with every order at no additional charge.

Delivery is free anywhere in India, with guaranteed dent-free arrival - no distance charge, no size charge, no handling fee.

Production starts once your dimensions are confirmed in writing. Because the centre pilaster has to be carved from a single selected board, we photograph that timber for you as well as sending progress images of your actual vitrine through carving, finishing and gilding.

Our team carries the cabinet in with the doors and glass crated separately, which keeps it lighter and narrower on the way through the house. The carcass is set and levelled first, then the doors are hung, then the shelves are fitted with the cabinet already standing where it will live.

Let us know lift dimensions, stair turns and doorway widths before dispatch so we can plan the approach. Every photograph on this page is of the actual product, not a render.

The solid teak frame and joinery of this vitrine carry a 20-year warranty. That covers the carcass, the pilaster, the door frames, the base structure and every joint between them - the parts that keep a tall glazed cabinet square and its doors closing evenly.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs alongside it and never expires. The oils naturally present in teak are its own defence, and our warranty stands behind them.

Glass, shelves, supports and hardware are covered against manufacturing defect.

The walnut finish, the ivory lining and the hand-applied gilding are all recorded against your order, so if you ever want a carved section re-gilded or a panel refreshed, we can match exactly what was originally used. Contact us with your order number and we will take care of it.
