An ivory and gold TV unit in carved teak with a shaped back panel, pierced gallery, carved crest and a serpentine three-drawer console, made to order by Brown Rabbit.

Because the piece is free-standing rather than fixed, it can be positioned wherever the room wants it, including against a wall you would rather not drill or one with panelling you would rather not disturb.

The height of the back panel is set from your screen and your ceiling. The panel needs to stand clear above the top of the television for the composition to work, and the crest above that needs room to breathe - so we ask for both measurements before drawing.

The console below can be built with three drawers as shown or with cupboards, and the pale ground can be taken warmer or cooler with the gilding extended or reduced. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

A tall back panel standing on a low console is, structurally speaking, a sail on a boat. It catches every knock and it has nothing above it holding it steady.

The answer is in how the panel meets the console, and it is not screws. The panel is built with two heavy stiles running its full height, and each stile continues down past the console top and is tenoned into the plinth frame below - passing through the console rather than sitting on it. The console top is then housed around them.

That means the load path runs from the very top of the crest straight down through solid timber into the plinth, and nothing is depending on a fixing into end grain. Push the top of the panel and the whole piece resists as one object.

The pierced gallery under the sweep is fitted last, once the panel is standing and squared, because a pierced element built in early would be carrying stress it was never meant to take. Fitted last, it carries nothing - which is exactly what a decorative gallery should do.

Material: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Structure: shaped back panel on two full-height stiles tenoned through the console into the plinth frame; serpentine console with three drawers; deep openwork carved plinth.

Ornament: carved and gilded crest, pierced gallery beneath the swept head, hand-painted floral sprays on the panel, gilded mouldings and drawer surrounds.

Finish: ivory ground with hand-laid gilding; ground colour and gilding balance adjustable.

Options: console available with cupboards in place of drawers; back panel height set to your screen and ceiling.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

The back panel and the console travel as separate sections, which is how the piece is built, so nothing has to be forced apart or forced together on site.

The pale painted surfaces are faced with a clean non-transferring layer before any foam goes near them. The carved crest is capped on its own, and the pierced gallery - the most delicate element in the piece - is packed with foam worked into its openings so it is supported from within.

The serpentine console front is edge-protected along its curve, and the openwork plinth is blocked so the piece never rests its weight on the carving.

Everything then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and fitted wooden crates, with fixings and an assembly drawing in a labelled box. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery anywhere in India is included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no surcharge for a smaller town.

Production begins once your screen size, ceiling height, console layout and finish are confirmed in writing. You get a realistic production window then and updates as the piece moves through carcass work, carving, painting, gilding and crating.

The shipment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is ours to honour.

Tell us your doorway, stair and lift dimensions when you order. The back panel is the tall section and its dimensions decide how the piece is crated, so we need that information before production rather than after.

The solid teak structure and its joinery carry a 20-year Brown Rabbit warranty - the back panel stiles and their tenons into the plinth, the console carcass, the drawer construction and the plinth frame.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the piece for as long as you own it, backed by teak's natural termite resistance and confirmed in writing.

Drawers are fitted by hand and can be adjusted over the years as solid timber settles. The ivory ground, the gilding and the painted sprays are all applied by hand, so each piece carries its own small variations.

Written warranty terms are issued with the order so the cover is agreed before we begin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

No. The panel is built on two full-height stiles that pass through the console and are tenoned into the plinth frame below, so the load runs through solid timber into the base and the piece stands as one object. It can be tied back to a wall if you prefer that reassurance.

Tall enough to stand clear above the top of the television, with room above that for the crest. Send us your screen size and ceiling height and we will set the panel height and confirm it in writing.

Yes. Three drawers as shown, or cupboards, or a combination - planned around what you will actually keep in it.

Yes. The ivory ground can be taken warmer or cooler or replaced with another colour, and the gilding extended or reduced. We finish a sample area for your approval.

The sprays on the panel are hand-painted; the crest, gallery, mouldings and plinth are carved in solid teak and gilded. The two techniques are used for different jobs - painting for delicacy on a flat ground, carving for depth on the frame.

As two sections - back panel and console - which is how it is built, with fixings and an assembly drawing. Nothing has to be forced apart or together on site.

Solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans, with a 20-year warranty on the structure and joinery and a lifetime warranty against termite damage.
