An ivory and gold TV unit for the living room in carved teak, with a shaped three-lobed crested back and a bow-fronted cupboard base, made to order by Brown Rabbit.

The shaped back is what makes this a living-room piece rather than a media stand. It gives the arrangement a silhouette, which is what a room reads from a distance, and it means the unit still looks composed when the television is off.

The screen size determines the width of the centre lobe, so we ask for it first. The two outer lobes are then drawn to leave the screen framed rather than crowded, and the crest above is scaled to the ceiling height.

The base can be built with cupboards as shown, with drawers, or with both, and the ivory ground and gold can be adjusted in balance. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

A three-lobed back is a shape drawn with a compass, not by eye - and the radii have to relate to each other or the curves fight.

The centre lobe is set out first, its width taken from the screen it will frame. The two outer lobes are then struck from centres placed so that each curve meets its neighbour tangentially - that is, so the two arcs share a common direction at the point where they touch. Where that is done, the eye runs smoothly from one lobe into the next. Where it is not, there is a visible kink at each junction, and no amount of carving over the joint disguises it.

Our artisans strike the whole outline full size on a board before any timber is cut, and stand back from it. A curve that is mathematically tangential can still look wrong at full scale, and the drawing is adjusted until it looks right rather than until it is correct.

Only then is the crest drawn on top - because a crest sitting on a hesitant outline will always look applied, and one sitting on a confident outline looks inevitable.

Material: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Structure: shaped three-lobed back with a carved flowering crest, set out full size with tangential curves; bow-fronted base with carved cupboard doors and pierced lozenge centre panels; deep carved scroll feet.

Decoration: hand-painted floral sprays on the back panel; carved and gilded scrollwork on the crest, base, doors and feet.

Finish: ivory ground with hand-laid gold; balance adjustable.

Options: base with cupboards, drawers or both; cable routes run behind the panel; ventilation cut to suit your equipment.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

The piece travels as two sections - the shaped back and the base - as it is built.

The crest is the tallest and most delicate element and is packed with foam worked into its openwork, then capped separately. The lobed edges of the back panel are protected along their curves rather than at their corners, since the curve is what a crate strikes.

The bowed base front is edge-protected along its arc, the pierced lozenge panels are packed from behind, and the deep scroll feet are wrapped and blocked so the weight rests on the carcass in transit.

Pale painted surfaces are faced with a clean non-transferring layer first. Both sections then go into laminated foam, bubble wrap and fitted wooden crates, with fixings and an assembly drawing. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery anywhere in India is included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no surcharge for a smaller town.

Production begins once your screen size, ceiling height, base layout and finish are confirmed in writing. You get a realistic production window at that stage and updates as the piece moves through carcass work, carving, painting, gilding and crating.

The consignment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is our responsibility to honour.

Tell us your doorway, stair and lift dimensions when you order. The shaped back is the tall section and its outline decides the crate, so we need that information before production.

The solid teak structure and its joinery carry a 20-year Brown Rabbit warranty - the shaped back and its framing, the bowed base carcass, the door frames, the scroll feet and every joint that carries load.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the piece for as long as you own it, backed by teak's natural termite resistance and set down in writing.

Doors are hand-fitted to the bow and can be adjusted over the years as solid timber settles, which is ordinary maintenance. The ivory ground, the gilding and the painted sprays are all hand-applied and carry the variations that implies.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order so the cover is agreed before production begins.

Everything you need to know about this product.

From your screen. The centre lobe is set out to frame the television, the outer lobes are drawn so the screen is framed rather than crowded, and the crest is scaled to your ceiling height.

Because the three lobes must meet tangentially - sharing a direction where they touch - or there is a visible kink at each junction. We strike the outline full size on a board and adjust it until it looks right, not merely until it is geometrically correct.

Yes, or both. We plan the layout around your equipment and what you keep, with cable routes behind the panel and ventilation cut where needed.

Tell us at the time of order and we build the panel with the necessary backing for a bracket. If the screen will simply stand on the base, we plan the cable routes for that instead.

The sprays on the panel are hand-painted; the crest, door carving, lozenge panels and feet are carved in solid teak and gilded. Each technique is used where it does the most work.

Yes. The ivory ground can be taken warmer or cooler or replaced, and the gold extended or reduced. We finish a sample area for approval before completing the piece.
