A natural-finish wooden TV unit in solid teak, with scrolled ends, carved door panels, drawers and an open shelf, hand-built and made to order by Brown Rabbit.

A natural finish is the easiest of all to live with. There is no paint to chip and no gilding to keep clean; a mark can be worked out of a polished surface rather than needing to be repainted, and teak darkens gradually into a deeper honey colour over the years.

It is also the finish that shows what the timber actually is. Where a painted piece could be built of anything under the colour, a natural polish leaves the material on display - which is a reasonable thing to ask of furniture at this level.

Length, drawer sizes and shelf heights are drawn to your screen, your wall and your equipment. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

On a natural-finished piece the carver has nowhere to hide, and the scrolled ends are where that shows.

Paint and gilding forgive a great deal. A slightly torn fibre, a shallow gouge mark left in a hollow, a join that is a hair proud - all of it disappears under an opaque finish. Under a clear polish, every one of those things is visible at arm's length, and worse, the polish makes them darker than the surrounding wood.

So the sequence changes. On a natural piece our artisans finish each cut with the tool rather than with abrasive, because a scraped or sanded surface takes polish differently from a cut one and the difference shows as a dull patch. The scroll ends are worked in long strokes following the curve, always cutting with the grain even where that means turning the workpiece rather than the tool.

Then the grain is matched. The two scroll ends are cut from the same board, one at each end of it, so their figure runs in the same direction and at the same scale - which is why they read as a pair rather than as two separate ends that happen to be the same shape.

Material: solid teak throughout, hand-built and hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Structure: long low carcass with a cupboard at each end, two drawers and an open shelf at the centre; deep carved scrolled ends carrying the top beyond the carcass; carved apron at the base.

Doors: framed with carved foliate panels.

Finish: natural polished teak, tool-finished before polishing; scroll ends cut from a single board so their figure matches.

Services: cable routes and ventilation cut to suit your equipment and outlet positions.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

The scrolled ends are the widest points of this piece and they project beyond the carcass, so they are the first thing packed and the first thing protected.

Each scroll is capped with shaped foam that follows its curve, and the top edge that runs over them is protected along its full length.

A polished surface marks differently from a painted one - it shows a scuff as a shine rather than as a scratch - so the whole piece is faced with a soft clean layer before foam or tape is applied anywhere.

Doors and drawers travel closed and restrained. The unit then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate, marked for orientation. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Delivery anywhere in India is free and included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no small-town surcharge.

Production begins once your dimensions, internal layout and finish depth are confirmed in writing. We give a realistic production window then and updates as the piece moves through carcass work, carving, polishing and crating.

The consignment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is our responsibility to honour.

Tell us your doorway, stair and lift dimensions at the time of order. The scrolled ends make this piece wider than its carcass, so we measure the crate to the scrolls rather than to the case.

Brown Rabbit warrants the solid teak carcass and its joinery for 20 years - the carcass, the scrolled end joints, the door frames, the drawer construction and the apron.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the unit for as long as you own it, resting on teak's natural termite resistance and confirmed in writing.

A polished natural finish can be refreshed rather than replaced - a mark can usually be worked out and re-polished locally, which is one of the practical advantages of clear-finished solid timber over paint.

Doors and drawers are fitted by hand and can be adjusted over the years as the piece settles. Written warranty terms are issued with your order so the cover is agreed before production begins.

It deepens gradually into a warmer honey brown. Unlike paint or gilding it can be refreshed locally - a mark can usually be worked out and re-polished rather than needing the whole piece redone.

Yes, deliberately. They are cut from the same board, one at each end of it, so their grain runs in the same direction and at the same scale and they read as a genuine pair.

Yes. Tell us what will live in it and where your outlets are, and we set shelf heights and drawer depths and cut ventilation and cable routes to suit before building.

Yes, the same piece can be finished in colour or gilded. A natural polish is offered here because it shows the timber, but the choice is yours.

Usually a little wider than the screen above it. Send us the screen width and wall width and we will draw it to suit, then confirm the measurements in writing before production.

Because on a natural finish each cut is finished with the tool rather than with abrasive. A scraped surface takes polish differently and shows as a dull patch, so the carving is left as cut.
