A carved teak TV sideboard with a bow front, pierced galleries, tapered fluted legs and a tall framed back panel, made to order by Brown Rabbit.

A sideboard proportion suits a long wall better than a low console does, because the piece has enough height to relate to the wall behind it rather than hugging the floor. It also puts the storage at a workable height - you can reach into a sideboard cupboard without kneeling.

The two-part arrangement is worth thinking about before ordering. If the panel will carry a television, we build it for that. If it is decorative, it can be lighter and taller. If you want the option of both over time, we build it for the screen and you simply never hang one.

Length, storage layout and the balance of pale ground to gilding are all yours to set. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

A bow front is the most expensive shape in furniture, because everything about it has to curve - and the doors are the reason.

A curved door has to swing without its outer edge striking the carcass it is set into. On a flat front that is trivial: the door simply opens. On a bow front the door's own curve means the leading edge sweeps outward as it turns, and if the hinge is placed where it would sit on a flat door, the edge fouls the frame within a few degrees.

So the hinge knuckle is set forward of the carcass face, out past the curve, and the door edge is then cut to a bevel that follows the arc it will actually travel through. That bevel is different on the left-hand door from the right-hand one, and different again if the bow is more pronounced.

Our artisans set it out full size on a board, swing a template through the arc, and cut the bevel to match. It is why the doors on a properly made bow front open sweetly through their whole travel, and why the ones on a poorly made bow front open forty degrees and stop.

Material: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Structure: bow-fronted sideboard carcass with cupboards and carved cartouche doors; pierced gallery beneath the top; carved skirt; tapered fluted legs with ball capitals. Separate tall framed back panel with pierced gallery and carved crest.

Doors: hinge knuckles set forward of the carcass face with door edges bevelled to the arc they travel, set out full size before cutting.

Finish: pale ground with hand-laid gilding as photographed; other finishes available.

Options: back panel built to carry a screen or as a decorative panel; internal layout to your list.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

The two pieces are crated separately, as they are built and as they will be placed.

The bowed front is edge-protected along its curve rather than at its ends, since a straight protector would leave the projecting centre of the bow exposed - which is exactly the point a crate strikes first.

The pierced galleries on both pieces are packed with foam worked into their openings so they are supported from within, and the carved crest is capped separately. The tapered legs are wrapped and blocked so the sideboard's weight rests on its frame in transit.

Pale surfaces are faced with a clean non-transferring layer before foam. Both pieces then go into laminated foam, bubble wrap and fitted wooden crates. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Delivery anywhere in India is free and included in the price for both pieces - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no small-town surcharge.

Production begins once your dimensions, storage layout, panel specification and finish are confirmed in writing. You get a realistic production window at that stage and updates as the pieces move through carcass work, carving, finishing and crating.

The consignment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is ours to honour.

Tell us your doorway, stair and lift dimensions when you order - a long bow-fronted piece is wider on a turn than its measurements suggest, and we plan the route before it leaves the workshop.

Brown Rabbit warrants the solid teak in both pieces and their joinery for 20 years - the bowed carcass, the door frames, the leg joints, the skirt, and the back panel frame and its stiles.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the pieces for as long as you own them, backed by teak's natural termite resistance and set down in writing.

Bow-front doors are hand-fitted to their arc and can be adjusted over the years as solid timber settles, which is ordinary maintenance rather than a fault.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order so the cover is agreed before production begins.

Because the doors have to swing through an arc without fouling the carcass. The hinge knuckles are set forward of the face and each door edge is bevelled to the exact arc it travels, set out full size on a board before cutting.

Yes, if you tell us before production so we build it with the necessary backing. If it is to be decorative only, it can be made lighter and taller instead.

Yes. The two pieces are made as a pair but built separately, so the sideboard works alone if you later move it or change the room.

It is a full sideboard depth and height, so considerably more than a low console - and at a height you can reach into without kneeling. Tell us what will live in it and we plan shelves and divisions to suit.
