An open-fronted TV unit in carved teak with glass shelves, scrolled ends, a carved centre panel and gadrooned feet, made to order by Brown Rabbit.

Because the interior is open, the back of the unit is a finished surface rather than a hidden one - which means the piece can stand away from a wall, and it also means cable management has to be considered rather than concealed by a door. Tell us what equipment will sit inside and we plan the routes so nothing is visible from a seated position.

The interior can be lit, which is what makes an open unit work in the evening. Concealed lighting can be fitted above each bay, wired to your specification.

Doors can be added to one or both bays if you would rather have the option of closing it, and the finish can be changed throughout. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

Glass shelves in a carved case are not simply dropped in. They have to be carried, and how they are carried decides whether the piece looks light or looks propped.

The obvious method is a metal stud at each corner, which is quick and always visible - four bright points that catch the eye every time you look at the shelf. So our artisans do it differently: a shallow groove is worked into the timber at each side of the bay and the glass is slid into it, so the shelf is held along its whole edge and the fixing disappears into the carcass.

That also solves the strength problem. Glass supported at four points has all its stress concentrated at those points and will fail from a corner; glass supported along two full edges spreads the load and carries far more weight for the same thickness. Which in turn means the shelf can be thinner, and a thinner shelf is what makes an open unit look like air rather than like a stack of slabs.

The groove is cut before the interior is finished, and the glass is fitted last - so the shelf can always be lifted out and replaced without disturbing the carving.

Material: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Structure: open case between deep carved scrolled ends; carved and gilded centre panel dividing two bays; rosette friezes above and below; moulded plinth on turned gadrooned feet.

Shelves: glass, carried in grooves worked into the timber at each side rather than on corner studs, so the fixing is concealed and the load is spread along the full edge; removable.

Finish: silver-gilt with deep red-brown tones as photographed; other finishes available.

Options: concealed interior lighting; doors to one or both bays; cable routes planned to your equipment.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

Glass and deep carving in the same piece means two different packing problems, handled separately.

The glass shelves are removed for transit, faced with film, backed with cut boards and packed flat in their own protected section rather than left in the unit where they could shift.

The scrolled ends project furthest and are capped individually with shaped foam following their curve. The gilded centre panel and the rosette friezes are protected with foam worked in behind the raised work.

The gadrooned feet are wrapped and blocked so the weight rests on the plinth rather than the feet. Everything then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery anywhere in India is included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no small-town surcharge.

Production begins once your dimensions, shelf plan, lighting and finish are confirmed in writing. You get a realistic production window at that stage and updates as the piece moves through carcass work, carving, finishing and crating.

The shipment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is ours to honour.

Tell us your doorway, stair and lift dimensions when you order. The scrolled ends make the piece wider than its case, and we measure the crate to the scrolls.

The solid teak carcass and its joinery carry a 20-year Brown Rabbit warranty - the case, the scrolled ends and their joints, the centre panel, the plinth and the feet.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the unit for as long as you own it, backed by teak's natural termite resistance and confirmed in writing.

Glass shelves are removable and replaceable without disturbing the carving or the finish. Any electrical fittings supplied carry their own manufacturers' warranties and we tell you which are used.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order so the cover is agreed before production begins.
