A hand-carved teak TV unit with baroque door panels, turned corner columns, an open media bay and a serpentine top, made to order by Brown Rabbit.

This is a piece for a room that is already decorated rather than one waiting to be. Under a large screen it holds its own; against a plain wall it becomes the ornament of the room in its own right, which is worth knowing before you choose the length.

Everything inside is planned around your equipment. The centre bay is shelved to suit what will actually sit in it, ventilation and cable routes are cut where your outlets are, and the cupboards can be shelved for storage or left open.

The antiqued gold can be taken warmer or cooler, and the same design is available in natural teak, black with gold, silver or ivory. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

Carving across a cupboard door is a decision that has to be reconciled with the door being a door.

Deep relief needs thickness, and thickness on a hinged panel means weight - and weight on a hinge means a door that eventually drops and catches on its neighbour. So the doors here are not carved from one thick slab. They are made as a framed panel: a stout frame that carries the hinges and holds the shape, with the carved field worked in a separate panel let into it.

That separation does two things. The heavy carved work is carried by the frame rather than hanging off the hinge screws, and the panel is free to move very slightly within its groove as the seasons change, instead of forcing the door out of square.

Because the foliage sweeps across the door and off its edge, the carving is set out on both doors together while they lie side by side on the bench, so the pattern reads as one composition across the pair rather than as two panels that happen to match.

Material: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Structure: carcass with two framed-and-panelled carved doors, a central open media bay with shelf, and a shaped drawer; turned and carved corner columns; serpentine top.

Doors: stout frames carrying the hinges with carved panels let into grooves, so the panels can move independently of the door frame.

Finish: antiqued gold as photographed, adjustable warmer or cooler. Natural teak, black with gold, silver and ivory also available.

Services: ventilation and cable routes cut to suit your equipment and outlet positions.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

The deepest carving on this unit stands proud of the door faces, and the turned columns project at the corners - so those are the two things the packing is built around.

Each column is wrapped and capped separately, and shaped foam is worked in behind the raised foliage so the carving is supported from within rather than pressed from outside.

The serpentine top is edge-protected along its whole curved front, where a straight edge protector would leave the projecting centre exposed.

Doors and drawer are secured closed for transit, and the unit then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate, marked for orientation. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery anywhere in India is included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no surcharge for a smaller town.

Production begins once your dimensions, internal layout and finish are confirmed in writing. We give a realistic production window at that point and updates as the piece moves through carcass work, carving, finishing and crating.

The consignment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is our responsibility to honour.

Tell us your doorway, stair and lift dimensions when you order, and we plan the crate size and the route accordingly before the piece leaves the workshop.

Brown Rabbit warrants the solid teak carcass and its joinery for 20 years - the carcass, the door frames, the panel grooves, the column joints and the drawer construction.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the unit for as long as you own it, resting on teak's natural termite resistance and given in writing.

Doors are hung by hand and can be adjusted over the years, which is the ordinary behaviour of solid timber furniture rather than a fault. The antiqued finish is hand-applied and hand-wiped, so each piece carries its own pattern of highlight and shadow.

Written warranty terms are issued with the order so the cover is settled before we begin.

Yes. The pair is set out together while the doors lie side by side on the bench, so the foliage reads as a single composition across the unit rather than as two matching panels.

Yes. Natural teak, black with gold, silver and ivory are all available, and the antiqued gold itself can be taken warmer or cooler.

Usually a little wider than the screen above it. Send us the screen width and the wall width and we will draw the piece to suit, then confirm the measurements in writing before production.

Both - they are turned first and then carved, which is why the ridges and foliage follow the turned profile rather than being applied over it.
