A gilded carved teak living room chair in floral brocade with a bolster cushion, made to order by Brown Rabbit.

A single-fabric chair is the easiest kind to place in a room that already has pattern, because it reads as one shape rather than as a collection of surfaces. It also means a smaller quantity of one cloth, which matters if you are using something scarce or expensive.

The bolster is a working cushion rather than a decorative one - set at the small of the back it changes the effective depth of the seat, so it lets one chair suit two different people.

Any fabric can be used, and the frame is available in gold, silver, champagne, ivory or natural teak. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

Covering a whole chair in one patterned cloth sounds simpler than using two. It is considerably harder, because the pattern has to be planned across every surface at once.

Our upholsterers begin by finding the repeat - the distance at which the design starts again - and then lay out the chair's panels on the roll like a puzzle: back, inside arms, outside arms, seat, front rail. Each panel is positioned so a full motif lands where the eye goes first: centred on the back, centred on the seat, and running symmetrically down each arm.

The panels are cut in that layout and kept in order, so nothing is taken from the wrong part of the roll during the work.

Where a large repeat and a small chair collide, the seat is centred first and the back is centred second, because the seat is seen from above at close range while the back is read from across the room. That priority is decided before cutting, and it is the difference between a chair whose pattern looks placed and one whose pattern looks poured over it.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans and gilded.

Structure: slim gilded frame around a tall shaped back with carved crest; rolled arms; carved apron; cabriole legs.

Upholstery: single patterned cloth across back, arms and seat, with panels laid out on the roll so a full motif is centred on the seat and on the back; plain velvet bolster.

Comfort: the bolster changes the effective seat depth, so one chair suits two different people.

Finish: gold as photographed; silver, champagne, ivory and natural teak available.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

A patterned cloth creases visibly, so this chair is packed to keep every surface flat rather than merely protected.

The upholstery is covered with a clean breathable wrap laid smooth over the panels, with no tension anywhere that could pull a crease into the brocade.

The bolster travels wrapped separately and supported along its length so it keeps its shape.

The gilded frame is faced along its run, the crest capped, and the cabriole legs wrapped and blocked so the chair's weight rests on its seat rails. Everything then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery anywhere in India is included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no small-town surcharge.

Production begins once your dimensions, fabrics and finish are confirmed in writing. If you are supplying your own cloth, tell us the repeat size when you send it and we will confirm how much is needed for a properly centred layout before you buy.

The shipment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is ours to honour.

Tell us your doorway and stair dimensions when you order and we plan the crate around them before the chair leaves the workshop.

The solid teak frame and its joinery carry a 20-year Brown Rabbit warranty - the seat rails, the cabriole leg joints, the back frame, the arm structure and the crest and apron fixings.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the chair for as long as you own it, resting on teak's natural termite resistance and confirmed in writing.

Covers can be remade over the years without disturbing the gilded frame, and the pattern layout used on your chair is recorded so a new cover can be cut to the same centring rather than laid out afresh.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order so the cover is agreed before production begins.
