A gilded carved teak queen chair with a crown finial and white buttoned back, made to order by Brown Rabbit.

Ordered as a pair with a matching king chair, the two are set out so the crowns sit at different heights and the shoulders differ in width - which is what makes a pair read as a pair rather than as two of the same chair.

Ordered alone it works as a dressing chair, a bedroom chair, or the single seat in a hall where something with presence is wanted at a modest footprint.

The crown can be carved as shown or replaced with a cartouche or a monogram. Upholstery and finish are yours to choose. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

A crown carved as a free-standing object has a problem no applied ornament has: it is pierced all the way through, and it sits at the highest point of the chair where every knock arrives.

The arches of a crown converge at the top and spring from a band at the bottom, and each arch is a slender curved member with grain running out at both ends. Carve the whole crown from one block and those arches are short grain at their most vulnerable point.

So the crown here is built rather than carved from solid: the band is one piece with the grain running round it, and each arch is a separate piece with its grain following its own curve, let into the band at the bottom and joined at the finial on top. The joints are then covered by the carved detail at both ends - which is exactly where a real crown carries its jewels and mounts, so the ornament has somewhere honest to be.

It means the crown survives being carried, dusted and knocked, which a single-block crown will not do for long.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans and gilded.

Crown: built rather than carved from one block - a banded base with the grain running round it and separate arches each following their own curve, jointed at band and finial with the joints covered by carved detail.

Structure: shaped back with carved crest; arms rolling into carved volutes; pierced foliate apron; cabriole legs.

Upholstery: deep-buttoned back and sprung seat in white as photographed or the fabric of your choosing.

Options: crown replaceable with a cartouche or monogram; can be made as a pair with a matching king chair, set out to differ in height and shoulder width.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

The crown is the highest, thinnest and most pierced element on the chair, so it is packed as though it were a separate object.

Foam is worked through the openings between the arches so each is supported from within, and a moulded cap then covers the whole crown, standing clear of the finial.

The white upholstery is covered with a clean breathable wrap that will not transfer, since a mark on white shows immediately, and the buttoned back is given a standoff board.

The arm volutes are capped and the legs wrapped and blocked. Everything then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate measured to the crown. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery anywhere in India is included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no small-town surcharge.

Production begins once your dimensions, crown treatment, upholstery and finish are confirmed in writing. Where a monogram or device is being carved we send a drawing for approval before cutting.

The shipment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is ours to honour.

Tell us your doorway and stair dimensions when you order. The crown sets the crate height, and where access is very tight it can travel unfitted and be joined on site.

The solid teak frame and its joinery carry a 20-year Brown Rabbit warranty - the seat rails, the leg joints, the back frame, the arm structure, the crest and the crown assembly.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the chair for as long as you own it, backed by teak's natural termite resistance and given in writing.

Because the crown is built from separate members rather than carved from one block, an individual arch can be repaired or replaced if it is ever damaged - which is not possible on a crown cut from solid.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order so the cover is agreed before production begins.

No, and deliberately. It is built - a banded base with separate arches, each following its own curve and jointed at band and finial. A crown cut from one block has short grain in every arch at its most vulnerable point.

Yes. Because it is built from separate members, an individual arch can be repaired or replaced - which is not possible on a crown carved from solid.

Yes - a cartouche, a monogram or a family device. We send a drawing for approval before anything is cut.

Proportion: narrower in the shoulders, gentler in the curve and lower in the seat - a chair to sit in rather than to preside from. We can make both as a pair.

By setting the crowns at different heights and the shoulders at different widths. Two identical chairs read as duplicates rather than as a pair.

Yes, any fabric or hide. White keeps the chair light against a gilded frame, but the choice is entirely yours.
