Carved Teak Pooja Mandir with Marble Platform

This is a floor-standing pooja mandir in solid teak, finished in a dark walnut polish, built around a marble deity platform. The canopy is a carved arch carried on turned pillars with elephant brackets at their heads, topped by a pierced crest of scrollwork cut clean through the timber. Behind the platform, the back panel carries an Om motif worked in gold on a pale ground and framed so it sits behind the deities without crowding them.

The marble slab forms the top of a base cabinet that holds two carved cupboard doors and two drawers, giving closed storage for thalis, larger samagri and smaller daily items separately. The whole piece stands on a carved plinth with claw feet. Every Brown Rabbit mandir is made to order, so the height, the width, the storage layout, the back panel motif and the finish are agreed with you before production and the exact dimensions confirmed in writing. The solid teak and its joinery carry a 20-year warranty, termite damage is covered for the life of the piece, delivery anywhere in India is free, and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Why the Deity Platform Is Marble

Look at a home mandir that has been in daily use for five years and the damage is almost always in the same place: the surface where the lamps stand. Diyas are set down hot, ghee runs over the edge of the thali, water is offered and wiped, and camphor is lit directly on the platform. Polished wood cannot take that combination indefinitely. The finish clouds, then lifts, then the timber underneath darkens in rings, and because it is the most visible surface in the piece the whole mandir starts to look neglected while everything around it is still sound.

Setting a marble slab into that position solves it properly rather than delaying it. Marble is unaffected by lamp heat, it does not absorb oil the way an open-grained finish does, and it wipes clean with a damp cloth. It is also the material used underfoot and underhand in temple building for the same reasons, so it belongs here rather than being imported from a kitchen worktop. And because it is a set-in slab rather than a bonded surface, it can be lifted and replaced decades later without disturbing the carved woodwork around it. That is a repair path most mandirs simply do not have.

Packing Marble, Pierced Carving and a Cabinet Together

Three different fragilities travel in one delivery here. The marble slab is heavy, rigid and brittle: supported evenly it is safe, but any point load or flexing across its span will crack it, so it travels separately from the woodwork, laid flat on a full-bearing bed with edge protection at all four corners rather than being fitted into the cabinet for the journey. It is set into place at installation instead.

The pierced crest is the opposite problem, light and unsupported, so it is bedded into foam cut around the cut-through sections with nothing resting on the openwork and a rigid guard over its highest points. The base cabinet is the heavy component and is crated on its plinth with doors and drawers immobilised so they cannot swing or slide and mark the interior. The turned pillars and elephant brackets are individually wrapped, and the dark polished surfaces are faced across their whole area, since a scratch shows plainly on a dark polish. Everything is rigid-crated and strapped. Dent-free, uncracked and unscratched, or we make it right.

Free Delivery Across India, and Installing It

Delivery is free anywhere in India with no distance surcharge and nothing added to your invoice for freight. Production begins once your specification is confirmed, since nothing is held in stock, and we give you a realistic completion window at that point. If you are working towards a griha pravesh, a festival or a particular muhurat, raise the date at enquiry and we will tell you honestly whether it can be met rather than accepting the order and disappointing you.

Our team assembles the mandir in position and sets the marble slab into the base cabinet on site, which is why the piece is not simply left at your door. Choose the position before delivery day, because once the marble is seated and the cabinet is loaded the mandir is not something you will want to move: traditionally it is placed in the north-east of the home with the deities facing west or east, away from bathroom walls and out of direct sunlight. Measure your doorway and stair turns against the full height including the crest, and tell us at enquiry if access is tight.

What Is Covered on This Mandir

The solid teak and its joinery are warranted for 20 years from delivery, and termite damage is covered for the entire life of the piece with no expiry. On a mandir with a base cabinet, the joinery that matters most is in the carcass and the doors, since cupboard doors are opened daily and hinges pull against the frame every time. Those joints are cut and pinned rather than screwed into board, and they are covered for the full term. Termite cover has no end date because teak resists termites through the oils within the timber, and because a mandir standing against a wall for decades is exactly where an infestation goes unnoticed.

The polish, the marble and the painted back panel sit outside the structural warranty. Marble is hard-wearing but not indestructible; it can be marked by prolonged contact with strong acids such as lemon or by a heavy impact, which is wear rather than a fault. The advantage of the way it is fitted is that a marked slab can be lifted and replaced without touching the carving around it, and we will do that at an honest price. We also refinish the woodwork at any point in its life. Keep the mandir indoors, away from standing water and prolonged direct sun.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

Because that surface takes hot diyas, spilt ghee, water offerings and daily wiping, and polished wood clouds, lifts and stains under that combination within a few years. Marble is unaffected by lamp heat, does not absorb oil, and wipes clean. It is also set in rather than bonded, so it can be replaced later without disturbing the carving.

Yes. The back panel can carry a different symbol, a deity image, a plain book-matched teak panel, a mirrored panel or a marble insert. Tell us what your family observes and we will make the panel to suit rather than defaulting to what is shown.

The two cupboards take thalis, larger samagri boxes, a bell and books; the two drawers are sized for smaller daily items such as agarbatti, matches, wicks and kumkum. If you want a different split, more drawers or a deeper cabinet, tell us at enquiry and we will build to that.

It shows dust and fingerprints more readily, and it shows scratches more than a natural polish does. It also hides smoke discolouration far better, which on a mandir matters more. Dust the carving with a dry soft brush and wipe flat surfaces with a barely damp cloth.

Yes. Canopy doors are available and many families prefer them for dust protection. Be aware that closing the canopy reduces airflow, so smoke from diyas and agarbatti collects more under the arch. We will build it either way and would rather you knew the trade-off before deciding.

Measure your tallest deity including its base and crown, and allow clear headroom above it so the canopy is not close to a lamp flame. Send those measurements with your available floor space and we will recommend a size and confirm every dimension in writing before production.

Delivery is free anywhere in India with no distance charge. Our team assembles the mandir in position and sets the marble slab in place on site, since the marble travels separately to protect it. Decide the position beforehand, as it is not a piece you will want to move once loaded.
