An oval dining table set in solid teak, made to order by master Indian artisans and finished in gold over ivory. The top is oval with a carved frieze; the base is a colonnade of carved columns on a stepped plinth; the chairs stand on curved arched supports rather than legs.

The oval shape is what makes the set sociable. Nobody is stranded at a corner, everyone at the table can see everyone else, and the curve makes a large table easier to move around in a room that is not enormous.

The curved chair bases are a distinctive detail and a practical one - they sit flat on any floor, they cannot catch a rug corner the way a leg does, and they lift the carved apron clear of the floor where it stays clean.

Handcrafted Indian luxury, built to your dimensions, with a 20-year warranty on frames and joinery, lifetime termite cover, free PAN-India delivery and guaranteed dent-free arrival.

A chair standing on two curved arches instead of four legs has one joint that matters more than all the others: the point where the arch meets the seat frame. On a four-legged chair, load is shared four ways and each leg pushes straight down. On this chair, every bit of weight travels down through two curves, and a curve wants to spread outward under load.

So the arch is not butted to the seat rail and screwed. It is housed - a shallow socket is cut into the underside of the frame, the top of the arch is worked to fit it exactly, and the joint is then pegged straight through with teak dowel. The housing takes the sideways push that would otherwise open the joint; the peg takes the rest.

Both arches on a chair are cut from the same board, next to each other, so the two curves have the same grain running through them. Timber cut from different parts of a tree will flex by slightly different amounts, and on a two-point base that shows up as a chair that sits unevenly after a few years.

It is more work than a leg. It is also why a chair with no legs still sits perfectly still under someone leaning back at the end of a long meal.

Set: one oval dining table with chairs, made together as one commission.

Frames: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Top: oval, with a carved frieze beneath a moulded edge.

Base: colonnade of carved columns rising from a stepped plinth.

Chairs: curved arched supports in place of legs, housed and pegged into the seat frame, with a carved apron between them.

Chair backs: upholstered, rolling backward at the top; buttoned or plain to your choice.

Upholstery: pale striped weave as photographed; any fabric or leather available.

Finish: hand-applied gold over ivory; silver, walnut, ebonised and natural teak also available.

Options: chairs with or without arms, any chair count.

Dimensions: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

The chairs' curved bases are their widest and most exposed part, so each arch is padded along its full curve in foam formed to the shape rather than wrapped flat against it. Chairs are crated individually and never nested.

Upholstered panels are covered first in soft non-abrasive sheeting so nothing marks the cloth. The carved apron between the arches has its recesses filled rather than bridged, so strapping bears on solid timber.

The table travels as top and base. The oval top is face-protected with a rigid board across its whole surface and edge-protected all the way round the curve, where there is no corner to take a knock on behalf of the rest. The colonnade and plinth are crated together with each column padded.

Unpack the chairs first for floor space, then the base, then the top. Nothing needs dismantling and no fixing has to be undone.

Delivery is free anywhere in India for the whole set, and every piece is guaranteed to arrive dent-free. If anything is wrong when the crates are opened, correcting it is our cost, and we commit to that before you order.

Production begins once the table size, chair count, upholstery and finish are confirmed in writing. Table and chairs are made together and dispatched together so the finishes match across every piece.

We share the schedule at confirmation and update you as carving, finishing and upholstery complete. Tracking is shared as soon as the crates leave us, and our team agrees the delivery window with you directly.

Open the crates with the delivery team present and check every piece. An oval top has no corner to angle through a doorway, so access measurements matter more than usual - send us your doorway, lift and stair dimensions at the order stage and we set the top size to a figure that will reach the room.

Every frame in the set carries a 20-year warranty on solid teak frame and joinery. On these chairs that specifically includes the housed and pegged arch joints, which carry the whole load of the seat and are the joints we build most carefully.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs on every piece, based on teak's own oil content rather than on an applied treatment, and issued in writing with the set.

Both documents are tied to your order and handed over on delivery, so the record stays with you. If a covered fault appears on one piece, send photographs and we repair or replace that piece alone.

Upholstery and hand-applied finishes are wearing surfaces and are handled separately, but we re-cover and re-finish our own furniture at any age. Your specification stays on file, so a chair added or re-covered years later matches the rest of the set exactly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

Because nobody sits at a corner. Every place at the table is a good one, everyone can see everyone else, and the curve makes a large table easier to move around in a room that is not enormous.

As many as you specify, with or without arms. All the chairs are made together with the table as one commission, so the carving and the finish match exactly however many you order.

Yes. Each arch is housed into the seat frame - a socket cut to fit rather than a butt joint - and pegged through with teak dowel, so the joint resists the outward push that a curved support creates under load.

Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production. Send us your room dimensions or the seating number you need and we build the oval and the colonnade to suit.

Yes to both. The pale striped weave and gold-over-ivory finish shown are one combination; any fabric or leather works, and the frames take silver, walnut, ebonised black or natural teak instead.

Solid teak throughout, table and chairs alike, hand-carved by master Indian artisans. Nothing is veneered, so the top can be sanded back and re-finished and any carved element can be re-cut.

20 years on the solid teak frames and joinery of every piece, including the housed and pegged arch joints on the chairs, plus a lifetime warranty against termite damage. Both come in writing with the set.

Face-protected with a rigid board and edge-protected all the way round the curve, since an oval has no corner to absorb a knock. Delivery is free across India and dent-free arrival is guaranteed on every piece.
