A living room diwan in solid teak with a gold leaf carved frame and striped damask covering.

The oval buttoned panel at the head is the focal point, held within its own carved gilt ring, and the back falls from it in a long sweeping line to a low foot with a rolled arm at each end.

Everything except that oval is covered in a striped damask - vertical on the back, running the length of the seat - which gives the piece a quieter, more domestic character than plain velvet would.

The seat is a single long cushion, and a round bolster cushion sits at the foot end.

Below the seat, a pierced carved apron runs the length of the front so light passes behind it, and the diwan stands on carved cabriole legs.

Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

A striped covering has to be aligned to gravity, not to the furniture, and on a diwan those two things disagree.

The back of a diwan falls diagonally - high at one end, low at the other. If the stripes were laid parallel to that falling rail, as the frame invites you to do, every stripe on the back would lean. Standing in the room you would not think the fabric was interesting; you would think the diwan was crooked, because the eye judges vertical against the walls and the floor, not against the piece of furniture in front of it.

So the stripes are set out plumb. A vertical line is struck on the back before covering begins, and every stripe is aligned to it regardless of what the rail above is doing.

The seat is then aligned to the back, so that the stripes appear to continue down from one to the other across the joint rather than restarting at a slightly different spacing - which is why the seat panel is cut after the back is finished, not at the same time.

The oval panel is the exception, kept plain so it does not have to resolve with anything.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved, with hand-applied gold leaf over the whole show frame.

Head: oval deep buttoned back panel within a carved gilt ring.

Back: striped damask run plumb, sweeping from the oval down to a low foot.

Seat: single full-length cushion, stripes aligned to the back, on a sprung and webbed platform.

Arms: rolled and upholstered at both ends within carved gilded scrolls.

Apron and legs: pierced carved apron with a central motif, on hand-shaped cabriole legs.

Cushions: round bolster at the foot end.

Handing: built with the oval to the left or the right, to your requirement.

Made to order: length, back height, seat depth, handing, finish and covering are all customisable. Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Gilding and patterned fabric are wrapped separately, because each needs the opposite handling.

Every gilded surface takes acid-free tissue directly against the gold, then foam padding shaped along each moulding, then bubble wrap. The pierced apron is supported with foam pressed into its openings so the carving is braced from behind, and the carved scrolls at the arms and legs are individually blocked.

The upholstery is wrapped in clean breathable cloth, then in soft polythene, with no tape anywhere on the covering and no pressure across the oval buttoned panel.

The bolster travels in its own sleeve.

Legs are detached where the design allows, sleeved in foam and boxed with blocking at the ankle.

Everything ships in a hardwood crate with corner protection and orientation marking. Multi-layer protective packaging is included on every order at no extra cost.

Delivery is free anywhere in India, with guaranteed dent-free arrival. No distance charge, no size charge, no handling fee.

Production begins once your length, handing and covering are confirmed in writing. We photograph your actual diwan through the build - the frame in the white, the carving, the gold leaf, the stripes set out plumb on the back, and the finished piece.

Our team carries the diwan in, fits the legs if they have travelled separately, sets and levels it, and places the bolster.

Send us lift dimensions, stair turns and doorway widths ahead of dispatch so the route can be planned. Every photograph on this page is of the actual product, not a render.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty - the seat rails, the back frame, the oval ring, the arm frames, the apron and the leg joints, along with every joint between them.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the diwan and never expires. Teak's own oils are its first defence and our warranty is the second.

The sprung and webbed platform and the buttoning work are covered against manufacturing defect.

The covering used on your diwan is recorded against your order number, along with the gilding materials. On a patterned fabric that record matters more than usual - if a panel ever needs replacing, matching both the cloth and the way it was set out is what makes the repair invisible. Contact us with your order number and we will arrange it.
