A white diwan in solid teak with a hand-carved gold leaf frame and deep buttoned pearl upholstery.

Its most visible element is the crest - a tall pierced carving standing above the back at the head end, worked right through so light passes behind it. It gives the diwan real height at one end while the rest of the piece stays low.

The back falls from that crest in a long carved sweep to a low foot, buttoned throughout. The arms are rolled and upholstered smooth, and the seat runs as one full-length cushion.

Below the seat, a carved apron with a central motif runs the length of the front, and the diwan stands on shaped carved legs.

Pale covering with a gold frame is a deliberately light combination - it suits a room that already has strong colour elsewhere and needs a large piece that does not add more.

Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

The crest on this diwan is carved on both faces, and that doubles the work for a reason that only becomes obvious once the piece is in a room.

On most upholstered furniture, carving sits against something. A carved back rail has upholstery behind it; a carved leg has the floor behind it. Only the front is ever seen, so only the front is worked, and the back face is left flat.

This crest stands clear above the back, pierced right through. A diwan is very often placed away from a wall - at the foot of a bed, across a corner, in the middle of a large room - and the moment it is, the back of that crest is in full view of anyone walking behind it. A flat, unworked reverse would be visible from half the room.

So the carver works it as a two-sided piece: the pattern is set out on both faces, the piercings are cut to meet cleanly through the thickness, and the scrolls are modelled front and back so neither side reads as the wrong one.

The gilding follows the same rule - both faces are prepared, laid and burnished to the same standard.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved, with hand-applied gold leaf over the whole show frame.

Crest: tall pierced carving standing above the back, worked and gilded on both faces.

Back: deep buttoned, sweeping from the crest down to a low foot within a carved and gilded rail.

Arms: rolled and smooth upholstered, framed by carved gilded volutes.

Seat: single full-length piped cushion on a sprung and webbed platform.

Apron and legs: carved apron with central motif, on hand-shaped carved legs.

Handing: built with the crest to the left or the right, to your requirement.

Made to order: length, back and crest height, seat depth, handing, finish and covering are all customisable. Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

The crest is the most exposed element on this piece and it is packed first. Foam is pressed into each opening in the piercing so the carving is supported from within, tissue is laid over the gilding on both faces, and the whole crest is boxed with blocks moulded around its profile.

The rest of the gilded frame takes acid-free tissue directly against the gold, then foam padding shaped along each moulding, then bubble wrap.

The pale upholstery is wrapped in clean breathable cloth first - nothing that can transfer colour - then in soft polythene, with no tape anywhere near the covering.

Legs are detached where the design allows, sleeved in foam and boxed with blocking at the ankle.

Everything ships in a hardwood crate with corner protection at every arris and orientation and lift points marked. Multi-layer protective packaging is included on every order at no extra cost.

Delivery is free anywhere in India, with guaranteed dent-free arrival. No distance charge, no size charge and no handling fee.

Production begins once your length, handing and covering are confirmed in writing. We photograph your actual diwan through the build - the frame in the white, the crest carved on both faces, the gold leaf, the buttoning pulled, and the finished piece from both front and back.

Our team carries the diwan in, fits the legs and the crest if they have travelled separately, and sets and levels it in position.

Send us lift dimensions, stair turns and doorway widths ahead of dispatch so the route can be planned before the piece leaves us. Every photograph on this page is of the actual product, not a render.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty - the seat rails, the back frame, the crest, the arm frames, the apron and the leg joints, along with every joint between them.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the diwan and never expires. Teak's own oils are its first defence and our warranty is what stands behind them.

The sprung and webbed seat platform and the buttoning work are covered against manufacturing defect.

A pale covering is the one most likely to be renewed at some point, so the covering used on your diwan is recorded against your order number along with the gilding materials. That makes a later recover or a gilding repair a matter of matching a record rather than guessing. Contact us with your order number and we will arrange it.
