A wooden diwan in solid teak with a polished show frame and deep buttoned upholstery.

The design is restrained by intention. Ornament is limited to the carved scroll at the arm and the shaped seat rail; everything else is the moulded frame line and the buttoning inside it.

The back rises to a curved buttoned panel at the head, dips at the middle, and rises again slightly before falling to the low foot - the classic double-curve profile that makes a diwan comfortable to lean back into at either position.

The seat runs as one full-length cushion with a piped edge.

Because there is no gilding or paint on it, this is the version of the piece that suits a room with existing timber furniture - it sits alongside polished wood rather than against it.

Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

The moulding around the back of this diwan changes direction three times, and where it does is exactly where its joints are hidden.

A continuous moulded frame around a curved back cannot be made from one piece of timber. The curve is too long and it doubles back on itself, so somewhere the moulding has to be jointed. The question is where.

Put a joint in the middle of a smooth curve and the eye finds it, because along a steady curve any small change in the profile or the grain direction shows as an interruption. But at a point of inflection - the exact place where the curve stops bending one way and begins bending the other - the eye is already dealing with a change of direction. Put the joint there and it disappears into a change that was going to happen anyway.

So the frame is set out first as a drawing, the points of inflection are found on it, and the moulding lengths are cut to meet at those points. Each segment is then cut with its grain running along its own portion of the curve, so no length has weak short grain in it.

Run a hand along the finished back and you will feel a continuous moulding. Look for the joints and you will have to work at it.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved, with a polished walnut-toned show frame.

Back: continuous moulded frame line, jointed at the points of inflection, enclosing a deep buttoned panel.

Seat: single full-length piped cushion on a sprung and webbed platform.

Arms: rolled and upholstered at the head, with a carved scroll where the arm meets the seat rail.

Seat rail: shaped and moulded, running into the legs.

Legs: hand-shaped cabriole legs.

Handing: built with the high back to the left or the right, to your requirement.

Finish: walnut-toned polish with the grain left visible.

Made to order: length, back height, seat depth, handing, timber tone and covering are all customisable. Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

A polished show frame shows a scuff in its sheen even where there is no dent, so the timber gets the more careful treatment on this piece.

Acid-free tissue is laid directly against every polished surface - the moulded back line, the arm scrolls, the seat rail and the legs - then foam padding shaped along each moulding, then bubble wrap.

The buttoned back and the seat are wrapped in breathable cloth, then in soft polythene, with no pressure applied across the buttoned face.

The carved scrolls at the arms are the most exposed points on the piece and are given individual foam blocking.

Legs are detached where the design allows, sleeved in foam and boxed with blocking at the ankle.

The diwan ships in a hardwood crate with corner protection at every arris and clear orientation and lift markings. Multi-layer protective packaging is included on every order at no extra cost.

Delivery is free anywhere in India, with guaranteed dent-free arrival. No distance charge, no size charge and no handling fee.

Production begins once your length, handing and covering are confirmed in writing. We photograph your actual diwan through the build - the frame in the white with the moulding jointed and cleaned up, the carving, the polish, the buttoning pulled, and the finished piece.

Our team carries the diwan in, fits the legs if they have travelled separately, and sets and levels it in position.

Send us lift dimensions, stair turns and doorway widths ahead of dispatch so the route can be planned. Every photograph on this page is of the actual product, not a render.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty - the seat rails, the back frame and its moulded surround, the arm frame, the carved scrolls and the leg joints.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the diwan and never expires. Teak's own oils are its first protection and our warranty stands behind them.

The sprung and webbed seat platform and the buttoning work are covered against manufacturing defect.

On a polished piece a repair has to match both colour and sheen, so the exact polish specification used on your diwan is recorded against your order number, along with the covering. That record is what makes a later touch-up disappear rather than show as a patch. Contact us with your order number and we will arrange it.
