An antique style diwan in solid teak with a black polished frame and blue brocade upholstery.

Both ends roll outward into scrolls - the head end tall, the foot end low - and the back sweeps between them in a continuous S. Because both ends are finished the same way, the piece can stand away from a wall and be approached from either direction.

The frame is polished black rather than gilded, with fine gilt lining along the mouldings and small carved motifs at the crest, the seat apron and the leg heads.

The covering is a woven floral brocade in blue, piped along every edge, and the seat runs as one full-length cushion.

It stands on carved sabre-shaped legs, and a bolster sits at the lower end.

Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

The two rolled ends on this diwan cannot be covered with flat panels, because a scroll is a spiral and no flat panel will wrap one.

Try it and the problem shows immediately. Bring the covering round the outside of the roll and the material has to travel further round the outer curve than the inner one; the surplus gathers into a fan of creases at the centre of the spiral, exactly where the eye goes.

The traditional answer is to treat the end of the scroll as its own surface. The main covering is brought round the roll and stopped at the face; a separate circular panel - the scroll face - is then cut, eased into a disc, piped around its edge and stitched in place to close the end.

Cutting that disc is the skilled part. It is not a flat circle: the face of a scroll is slightly domed, so the panel has to be cut a little full and worked in around the piping until it sits without a single pucker.

Two scrolls, two faces, and on a patterned brocade both are cut so the motif sits centred in the disc - matching each other, since on this piece both ends are seen together.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved, finished in polished black with hand-applied gilt lining.

Form: outward scrolled ends at both sides with a continuous swept back between them.

Scroll ends: covered with separate piped scroll-face panels, cut and eased by hand.

Seat: single full-length cushion on a sprung and webbed platform.

Upholstery: brocade covering with piping to every edge.

Carving: small carved motifs at the crest, seat apron and leg heads.

Legs: hand-shaped sabre legs.

Cushions: bolster at the lower end.

Made to order: length, back height, seat depth, finish and covering are all customisable. Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

A polished black frame shows a scuff in its sheen even without a dent, and the two scroll faces are the parts most likely to catch, so both get particular attention.

Acid-free tissue is laid directly against every polished surface, then foam padding shaped along the mouldings, then bubble wrap, with additional foam cupped over each scroll end so nothing bears on the face panel.

The brocade is wrapped in breathable cloth laid with the weave, then in soft polythene, with no tape on the covering and all strapping taken around the frame rails.

The bolster travels in its own sleeve.

Legs are detached where the design allows, sleeved in foam and boxed with blocking at their narrowest point.

The diwan ships in a hardwood crate with corner protection at every arris and orientation and lift markings. Multi-layer protective packaging is included on every order at no extra cost.

Delivery is free anywhere in India, with guaranteed dent-free arrival. No distance charge, no size charge and no handling fee.

Production begins once your length, finish and covering are confirmed in writing. We photograph your actual diwan through the build - the frame in the white, the black polish and gilt lining, the scroll faces cut and stitched, and the finished piece.

Because this diwan is finished on both sides and both ends, our team will ask where it is to stand before setting it down, then level it in position and place the bolster.

Send us lift dimensions, stair turns and doorway widths ahead of dispatch so the route can be planned. Every photograph on this page is of the actual product, not a render.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty - the seat rails, the swept back frame, both scroll frames, the apron and the leg joints, along with every joint between them.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the diwan and never expires. Teak's own oils are its first protection and our warranty is what stands behind them.

The sprung and webbed platform and the upholstery work are covered against manufacturing defect.

The covering, the piping and the black polish with its gilt lining are all recorded against your order number. On a patterned brocade that record matters - if a panel ever needs replacing, matching both the cloth and the way the pattern was set out is what keeps the repair invisible. Contact us with your order number and we will arrange it.
