A gilded teak console mirror with a pierced leaf-and-scroll frame, a beaded inner slip and a plain plate, hand-carved and made to order by Brown Rabbit.

Sizing it to the furniture is the whole trick. As a working rule the mirror wants to be somewhere between two-thirds and the full width of the console beneath it, hung with a hand's breadth or so of clear wall between the two so each piece keeps its own outline. Send us the console dimensions and we will draw the mirror to suit them.

Because the frame is pierced, it also works well where a lamp or a pair of candlesticks will stand on the console. The light passes through the openwork and throws a pattern onto the wall behind, which a solid frame simply cannot do.

The plate can be plain or bevelled, the leafwork carved fuller or more open, and the gilding laid warm or pale. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

The beaded slip that runs around the opening is not part of the main frame. It is a separate piece, and it is the last thing to go on.

Our artisans make it that way on purpose. The outer frame is carved, pierced and gilded as one job. The plate is then bedded into the rebate from the front, and only afterwards is the beaded slip fitted around it and fixed - not glued into place, but held by small brass fixings that can be released.

The consequence matters in a house. Should the plate ever need to be changed - after a move, or a knock, or simply because a later owner wants a bevel where there was none - the slip comes off, the glass lifts out, and the pierced carving and its gilding are never touched. On a frame where every leaf is cut through and hand-gilded, that is the difference between a small job and an unhappy one.

The slip also serves the eye. It gives the leafwork a hard edge to stop against, so the carving stays lively without spilling into the reflection.

Material: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Structure: pierced leaf-and-scroll frame carved as panels on a jointed carcass frame; separate beaded inner slip fitted after glazing and secured with releasable brass fixings.

Finish: gold gilding over the carved surfaces, burnished along the raised leafwork and the beads. Silver, ivory, champagne, black with gold and natural teak available.

Plate: plain mirror glass as photographed; bevelled plate available on request.

Hanging: concealed fixings supplied and rated for the finished weight; portrait, landscape or square proportion set at the time of order.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

A pierced frame is largely edge and void, so it is packed from the inside out.

Foam is worked into the openings behind the leafwork so each carved element is supported from within rather than squeezed from outside, and the outermost scrolls at the corners are padded individually before the general wrapping goes on.

The plate is faced with a soft film and backed with a cut board so the glass carries no load, and the beaded slip is protected along its full run because it is the finest moulding on the piece.

The mirror then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate, marked for orientation and carried on edge. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed on every order.

Delivery anywhere in India is free and included - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no surcharge for smaller towns.

Production begins once your size, proportion, plate and finish are confirmed in writing. We give you a realistic production window at that point and update you as the piece moves from carving to gilding to glazing and crating.

The consignment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is on us to honour.

Tell us about any access constraint - a tight stair, a small lift, a narrow entrance - when you order, and we plan the crate dimensions and route around it before the piece leaves the workshop.

Brown Rabbit warrants the solid teak frame and its joinery for 20 years - the jointed carcass frame, the joints holding the pierced panels, and the seating of the beaded slip.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the piece for as long as you own it. The natural oils in teak resist termites, and we put that resistance in writing.

The gilding is hand-laid and hand-burnished across a great many small surfaces, so the shine varies from leaf to leaf and bead to bead. That is a hand-gilded finish doing what it should.

Written warranty terms come with your order, so the cover is settled before any timber is cut.

Usually between two-thirds and the full width of the console, hung with a small gap of clear wall between the two. Send us the console width and height and we will draw the mirror to suit, confirming the measurements in writing before production.

Yes. The beaded inner slip is fixed with releasable brass fixings rather than glued, so the slip comes off and the glass lifts out without the pierced carving or its gilding being touched.

Very well. Light passes through the openwork and throws a pattern onto the wall behind, which is something a solid frame cannot do.

Both. The design is drawn in the proportion you choose - square, portrait or landscape - and the leafwork is respaced so the composition stays balanced.

Either. A plain plate keeps the reflection clean and lets the carving lead; a bevel adds a bright refracted line at the edge. Specify at the time of order.

Gold as shown, plus silver, ivory, champagne, black with gold and natural teak. We can prepare a finish approach for approval before completing the piece.

Solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans, and covered by a 20-year warranty on the frame and joinery plus a lifetime warranty against termite damage.

Yes. Every image is a photograph of the real piece rather than a render, and your mirror is made to the same pattern and finish in the size you specify.
