A gilded teak ornate wall mirror with an urn crest, husk swags, margin panels and scrolled feet, hand-carved and made to order by Brown Rabbit.

The crest is deliberately tall in proportion to the plate, which is a neoclassical habit and a useful one - it lets a mirror of modest width command a tall wall. Above a narrow console, between two windows or on a stair landing, the urn carries the composition upward while the plate itself stays a comfortable size.

The pale ground behind the gilding can be changed to suit the room - the soft blue-grey shown, or stone, cream, ivory or a deeper colour. The gold can also be laid over the whole frame if you prefer a single-colour piece.

The plate can be plain or bevelled and the margin panels can be mirrored or left as painted ground. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

A husk swag looks simple - a row of little bellflowers hanging in a curve - and it is the element most often got wrong.

Two things have to be right. The first is the curve itself. A swag drawn freehand nearly always comes out too shallow at the ends and too round in the middle, which reads as a smile rather than as something hanging. Our artisans hang an actual light chain between the two fixing points on the setting-out board and trace the curve it makes. That is the only shape a hanging thing takes, and the eye knows it immediately even if it could not tell you why.

The second is graduation. The husks are largest where the swag hangs lowest and diminish steadily toward each end - not by a fixed step, but proportionally, so that the row appears to recede up the curve. Cut them all the same size and the swag looks like beads on a wire.

Get both right and a strip of carved wood convincingly hangs off a flat frame. That is the whole illusion this style depends on.

Material: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Structure: rectangular frame with a beaded slip and plate rebate; margin panels around the plate; carved urn crest, husk swags and scrolled feet joined to the frame.

Finish: hand-laid gilding over a pale coloured ground as photographed; stone, cream, ivory or a deeper ground available, or full gilding throughout.

Plate: rectangular mirror glass, plain or bevelled; margin panels mirrored or left as painted ground, to your choice.

Hanging: concealed fixings supplied and rated for the finished weight, with fixing centres given ahead of delivery.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

The urn crest is tall and slender and the swags hang clear of the frame, which makes both of them the first things to protect.

The urn is wrapped and capped on its own before any general packing starts. Each swag is supported from underneath along its curve with shaped foam, so the husks carry no load at any point, and the scrolled feet are capped at the base.

The plate and any mirrored margin panels are faced with film and backed with individually cut boards so no glass carries weight.

The complete mirror then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate, carried on edge and marked for orientation. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery across India is included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no surcharge for a smaller town.

Production begins once your size, plate and margin specification and ground colour are confirmed in writing. You get a realistic production window at that point and updates as the piece moves through carving, finishing, gilding, glazing and crating.

The consignment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is ours to honour.

Tell us about any narrow stair, small lift or restricted doorway when you order and we plan the crate size and route around it before the piece leaves the workshop.

The solid teak frame and its joinery carry a 20-year Brown Rabbit warranty - the rectangular frame, the beaded slip, the margin panel members and every joint holding the crest, the swags and the feet.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the mirror for as long as you own it, backed by teak's natural termite resistance and given in writing.

The gilding is laid and burnished by hand over a coloured ground, so the gold varies subtly in warmth across the piece. That is what gives a two-tone neoclassical frame its softness.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order, so the cover is settled before production begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

Yes. The soft blue-grey shown can be replaced with stone, cream, ivory or a deeper colour, or the frame can be fully gilded for a single-colour piece. We finish a sample area for approval.

They can be either mirrored or left as painted ground. Mirrored panels widen the reflection and add light; a painted ground keeps the plate as a single clean opening. Tell us which at the time of order.

It is a neoclassical proportion and a practical one - a tall crest lets a mirror of modest width command a tall wall, which suits a narrow console, a space between windows or a stair landing.

Yes. The urn and swags are drawn to your ceiling height, so the crest can be reduced where there is less wall above the mirror, with the proportions redrawn to stay balanced.

Plain or bevelled, as you prefer. A bevel adds a bright refracted line just inside the beaded slip.

Carved in solid teak by hand, with the husks graduated along the curve and the curve itself taken from a hanging chain, so the swag reads as something genuinely suspended from the frame.

Solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans, with a 20-year warranty on the frame and joinery and a lifetime warranty against termite damage.
