A carved teak antique wall mirror with an arched plate, laurel border, mask keystones and a shell crest, finished in black and gold and made to order by Brown Rabbit.

The proportion is upright and formal, and it suits a wall that is taller than it is wide - beside a doorway, in a passage, or above a narrow console. Because the outline is largely straight-sided with the interest at the head, it also hangs well in a row of two or three.

The height of the arch is adjustable. A shallow arch reads calm and architectural; a taller one is more emphatic and gives the crest more to sit on. We draw it to your ceiling height rather than to a formula.

The black ground can be replaced with a colour, or the frame fully gilded. The plate can be plain or bevelled following the arch. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

The two small carved masks on this mirror sit exactly where the arch begins to turn, and they are there for a structural reason before an ornamental one.

The springing point - where a straight upright becomes a curve - is the hardest junction on any arched frame to make look right. The grain direction changes there, the moulding has to transition from straight to curved, and any slight error in the tangent shows as a kink that the eye picks up immediately.

Placing a carved element at that exact point is the traditional answer, and it is an honest one: the mask covers the junction, gives the curve a visual starting gun, and lets the arch be built as a separate piece properly jointed to the uprights rather than being coaxed out of one length of timber.

Our artisans carve the pair as a handed set, not two copies - one turned very slightly left, the other right - so that they read as looking inward across the arch. It is the difference between two identical faces and two figures attending the same opening.

Material: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Structure: straight uprights with a separately jointed arched head; carved mask keystones at the springing points; gilded laurel border following the arch; shell crest and scrolled base joined to the frame.

Finish: hand-laid gilding over a black ground as photographed; coloured grounds or full gilding available.

Plate: arched mirror glass, plain or bevelled with the bevel following the curve, set into a rebate from the back.

Hanging: concealed fixings supplied and rated for the finished weight, with fixing centres provided ahead of delivery.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

An arched frame is packed differently from a rectangular one because the head is curved and a flat board leaves a gap exactly where the glass is most vulnerable.

So the plate is backed with a board cut to the arch, supporting the glass right up to the crown. The plate face is filmed first so nothing touches the surface.

The shell crest and the two mask keystones are capped individually with shaped foam. The black surfaces are faced with a clean non-transferring layer before any foam or tape goes near them.

The mirror then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate, carried on edge and marked for orientation. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Delivery anywhere in India is free and included in the price - no separate freight, no distance loading, no surcharge for a smaller town.

Production begins once your size, arch height, plate and finish are confirmed in writing. You get a realistic production window then, and updates as the piece moves through carving, finishing, gilding, glazing and crating.

The shipment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is our responsibility to honour.

Tell us about any tight stair, small lift or narrow doorway when you order and we plan the crating and the route around it before the mirror leaves the workshop.

The solid teak frame and its joinery carry a 20-year Brown Rabbit warranty - the uprights, the arched head and the joints between them, the base rail and the fixings of the crest, masks and laurel work.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the mirror for as long as you own it, backed by teak's natural termite resistance and given in writing.

The black ground and the gilding are both hand-applied, so each frame carries small variations in tone and shine. That is what hand finishing produces and it is what gives the piece depth at close range.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order, so the cover is agreed before we begin.

They mark the springing points where the uprights turn into the arch - the hardest junction on an arched frame. Placing carving there is the traditional solution, and the pair is carved handed, each turned slightly inward, rather than as two identical copies.

Yes. The frame can be fully gilded, or the black ground replaced with a colour of your choosing. We finish a sample area for approval before completing the piece.

It can. A bevelled plate is cut to the arched shape with the bevel running around the curve, or the plate can be supplied plain if you prefer an uninterrupted reflection.

An arch lifts a wall, which is exactly why it suits a low ceiling. Send us the ceiling height and wall width and we will set the arch and overall proportion accordingly.
