The story of where the bed goes

Every building tradition has rules about bed placement, and they usually turn out to be about the same practical problems. Vastu Shastra places the head of the bed to the south and advises against sleeping with the feet pointed directly at the door. Feng Shui arrives at nearly the same arrangement from different reasoning, calling it the commanding position: you see the door without being in line with it.

Strip away the metaphysics and a common core remains. A bed against a solid wall with a clear view of the entrance feels settled, because the sleeper is not exposed from behind and is not startled by anyone entering. A bed directly under a window loses that solid backing and gains a draught. A bed in the path between the door and the bathroom sits in a traffic lane all night.

Our artisans have built beds for households that follow vastu strictly and for households that do not, and the practical consequence is the same either way: the headboard wall is decided first, and the bed is designed to that wall. This is why we ask for room dimensions and door and window positions before we begin, rather than after.

Dimensions and weight are not published because each bed is built to the buyer's mattress and room. Send your mattress measurements along with the room plan showing door and window positions, and we will confirm the finished footprint in writing before production.

Packaging

Nailhead trim sets the packing method for this bed. Studs stand proud of the upholstery surface, so anything laid directly against them will mark the fabric around each head. The trim lines are covered first with a soft padded strip, then the whole panel is wrapped in a breathable cloth and a foam layer laid over it.

The gold carving is wrapped separately in foam sheeting, thickened at the headboard crest, the corner scrolls and the footboard shell. Bedside chests are packed individually with drawers secured shut and each drawer front padded, since gold-finished drawer fronts scuff against each other if they move.

The set travels in wooden crates built for these pieces with internal bracing. Hardware is bagged, labelled by component and fixed inside the main crate with an assembly sequence. Ask us for crate dimensions before dispatch if your building has a narrow lift or a tight staircase turn.

Shipping

We deliver across India and accept international orders. This bed is made to order, so dispatch follows the production window confirmed to you in writing when the order is placed.

Indian deliveries travel by covered transport with crates braced against movement and are delivered to your address. The carved headboard is the largest single component; confirm your lift dimensions and staircase turns before production so we can plan for access, and where it is tight we can build the headboard to separate at a concealed joint.

Home assembly is arranged in most Indian cities. If the room placement is governed by vastu or by any other requirement, tell the assembly team on the day, since moving a fully assembled bed of this weight across a room is harder than positioning it correctly the first time. International orders are quoted per destination with export-grade crating; destination duties and taxes are the buyer's responsibility.

Warranty

Brown Rabbit warrants the solid teak frame, the joinery and the hand carving of the bed and the bedside chests against manufacturing defects. If a joint loosens, a rail fails, a drawer runner gives way or a carved element cracks because of a fault in the making, we repair or replace it.

Upholstery workmanship, including button seating, panel tension and the setting of the nailhead trim, is warranted against defects. A stud that works loose through a fault in fixing is covered. Fabric wear, staining, marks from hair oil or cosmetics, and fading from direct sunlight are not covered, as these depend on use and placement.

The gold finish is warranted against flaking or lifting caused by defective application, and natural mellowing with age and light is expected rather than a defect. Damage from moisture, chemical cleaners, independently arranged transport or repairs attempted by others is outside the warranty. Full terms are confirmed in writing with your order.
