Overview of this damask and silver luxury bed

This luxury bed is built in solid teak with a crested carved headboard, deep scrolled wings, a serpentine footboard and carved cabriole legs, all finished in antique silver. The upholstery is a midnight blue damask with a woven tonal motif, buttoned on the headboard panel and laid flat with a tassel trim across the footboard.

Choosing a patterned fabric changes what the bed does in a room. A plain panel makes the carving the only pattern present; a damask panel introduces a second one, which works when the rest of the room is quiet and fights when the curtains and rug are already busy. In a bedroom with patterned curtains we would recommend a plain panel in a colour drawn from those curtains instead.

Antique silver reads cooler than gold and sits closer to the blue of the fabric, keeping the whole piece in one temperature. It suits grey, white and blue rooms with cool lighting. Custom sizes are made to order in king size, queen size, double or any dimension you specify.

The story of damask

Damask takes its name from Damascus, the trading city through which the technique reached the Mediterranean, though the weave itself came out of China. The pattern is not printed or embroidered; it is created by the weave alone, with the warp and weft alternating dominance so the motif appears as a change in the way light reflects off the cloth. Turn a damask panel in the light and the pattern reverses.

That reflective quality is why damask has been a furnishing fabric for a thousand years and why it belongs next to a metallic finish. Both surfaces work by reflection rather than by colour, so a silver-finished frame and a damask panel behave the same way as the light in the room changes through the day.

Indian workshops know the fabric intimately through brocade and jamawar traditions where woven motifs on a shifting ground are standard, not exotic. Our artisans set the buttoning on this headboard by working out from the centre of the motif rather than from the centre of the panel, which is a small distinction that decides whether the pattern looks placed or looks cut. Handcrafted Indian luxury is full of decisions like this one.

Dimensions and weight are not published because each bed is built to the buyer's mattress and room. Send your mattress measurements and available wall width and we will confirm the finished footprint in writing before production.

Packaging

The tassel trim across the footboard sets the packing method here. Trim that hangs free tangles and crushes if it is wrapped tightly, so it is laid flat, covered with tissue and then bridged with foam so nothing presses it against the panel. A crushed tassel fringe does not recover its drape.

The damask panels are covered in a breathable non-woven cloth with foam laid over the buttons so the tufting is never compressed. The antique silver carving is wrapped separately in foam sheeting, thickened at the headboard crest, the scroll wings, the footboard shell and the cabriole knees, with no adhesive tape touching any finished or upholstered surface.

The bed and chests travel in wooden crates built for these pieces with internal bracing, drawers secured shut and drawer fronts individually padded. Hardware is bagged, labelled by component and fixed inside the main crate. Crate dimensions can be confirmed before dispatch if your access is restricted.

Shipping

We deliver this bed across India and accept international orders. It is made to order, so dispatch follows the production window confirmed to you in writing when the order is placed. If you are supplying your own fabric, the timeline runs from the date the fabric reaches our workshop, not from the order date.

Indian deliveries move by covered transport with crates braced against movement, delivered to your address. The carved headboard is the largest single component; confirm lift dimensions and staircase turns before production, and where access is tight we can build the headboard to separate at a concealed joint.

Home assembly is arranged in most Indian cities. International orders are quoted per destination with export-grade crating and full documentation, and destination duties, taxes and clearance are the buyer's responsibility.

Warranty

Brown Rabbit warrants the solid teak frame, the joinery and the hand carving of the bed and the bedside chests against manufacturing defects. If a joint loosens, a rail fails or a carved element cracks because of a fault in the making, we repair or replace it.

Upholstery workmanship, including button seating, panel tension, pattern placement and the fixing of the tassel trim, is warranted against defects. Fabric wear, snagging of the trim, staining, marks from hair oil or cosmetics and fading in direct sunlight are not covered. Woven damask shows abrasion at the tufting folds sooner than a flat weave, which is a property of the cloth rather than a fault.

The antique silver finish is warranted against flaking or lifting caused by defective application, with natural mellowing expected. Where you supply your own fabric, we warrant our workmanship on it but not the fabric's own performance. Damage from moisture, chemical cleaners, independently arranged transport or third-party repairs is outside the warranty. Full terms are confirmed in writing with your order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

Damask is a woven fabric where the pattern is created by the weave itself rather than being printed, so the motif appears as a change in how light reflects off the cloth. That reflective quality is why it has been a furnishing fabric for centuries and why it sits well next to a metallic carved frame.

Plain if the room already has patterned curtains, a patterned rug or busy wallpaper, since two patterns compete. Patterned if the rest of the room is quiet and you want the bed to supply the interest. We build this carved frame either way, so the decision should follow your room rather than the catalogue photograph.

The motif is centred on the panel first, and the buttons are then set in relation to the weave rather than simply spaced evenly. Done the other way round, the pattern gets sliced at the panel edge and pulled into the tufting at random. It is the clearest test of whether a patterned headboard was made carefully.

Yes. Send us the fabric and we will build to it, though the production timeline then runs from the date the fabric arrives at the workshop. Tell us the pattern repeat when you send it, because that determines how much fabric is needed to centre the motif on both the headboard and the footboard.

Silver, in most cases. Silver and blue are both cool, so they sit at the same temperature and the frame supports the fabric rather than arguing with it. Gold against blue creates a strong complementary contrast, which is striking but far more demanding of the rest of the room to carry.

King size, queen size, double or any custom dimension. We build the frame around your mattress, so we ask for exact mattress length, width and thickness before production and confirm both the internal opening and the finished external footprint to you in writing before any fabric is cut.
