Planning the wall behind a bed is where most Indian bedroom projects spend money badly, so it is worth thinking about in the right order.

The usual approach is to treat the bed and the wall as two separate projects: buy a modest bed, then spend on wallpaper, wooden panelling, a POP or gypsum feature, cove lighting, or a mirror arrangement behind it. That works, but it is permanent, it dates, it cannot move with you, and the two elements frequently fight each other.

The alternative is to let the headboard be the wall treatment. A tall pierced headboard like this one occupies the visual space a feature wall would, and because it is openwork, the wall colour shows through it and becomes part of the composition rather than being covered up.

Packaging and Transit Protection

The headboard on this bed is tall, wide, heavily pierced and structurally the most delicate component we ship on any bed. It travels flat in its own cross-braced crate with rigid boards on both faces so it cannot flex, with the pierced scrollwork foam-cradled continuously along its width rather than blocked only at the ends, and the carved crest and volute wings individually wrapped.

The tufted upholstered panels are protected with standoff blocking bridging over the buttons rather than pressing on them. The pierced footboard is crated the same way as the headboard. Side rails are edge-protected along their full length, since a damaged rail end will not seat correctly at assembly. All fittings are bagged, labelled and packed with the assembly drawing. Every crate is corner-guarded, marked for orientation, fragility and lifting points, and photographed sealed before dispatch.

Shipping and Delivery

Before manufacture we need your exact mattress dimensions, your ceiling height and the wall width behind the bed - the headboard is proportioned to the wall, not just to the mattress, and getting that relationship right is the difference between a feature and an awkward object. Typical lead time is 10 to 12 weeks from order confirmation, longer with matching bedside tables, dresser or wardrobe.

Our team carries the components up, assembles the bed in the room, levels it and removes packaging. Measure your access route against the headboard, not the bed length: a tall wide headboard is the component that will not turn on a landing or fit a lift, and it is the most common reason a bed cannot be delivered. Tell us the tightest point before manufacture and we can build the headboard to separate if needed.

Craftsmanship Assurance and Care

Our craftsmanship assurance covers the solid teak frame, its joinery, the mattress support and the hand-carving. If a joint works loose, a rail fails or a carved element separates because of a fault in the making - rather than through impact, misuse or an attempted self-repair - we repair or replace it. Headboard upholstery is a consumable component covered separately.

A tall openwork headboard collects dust on both faces and inside every opening, and the back face is the one everybody forgets - pull the bed forward twice a year and brush the reverse. Use a clean dry soft brush on the pierced carving, never a cloth, which catches on the scrollwork and can snap the finest ribs, and never any liquid cleaner on gold leaf. Vacuum the tufted panels with a brush attachment and a soft brush around the buttons. A tall headboard is also a lever: never push or pull the bed by it when moving furniture - move the bed by its side rails. Tighten all fixings a fortnight after assembly.
